Shouldn't research time be reduced somehwat with all new techs?

We got quite a few new useable techs in WTT, like the special forces tree and the actually useful ones for synthetic refineries. You would, pre 1.5, just focus on whatever is vital for the war effort and then ditch the rest or research if you got any time to spare. But with more techs, you need to ditch even more, percentage wise, of whatever the total amount is.

Wouldn't it make sense to reduce the techs now in WTT with the new techs? Not by much, but to make it worthwhile to grab more techs.

Or, as you have an ahead of time penalty, get reduction for older techs? By X percent, not sure what would be approriate.

It is faster now (at least for some countries).

Go look at the US and UK decisions. They can get -6% to research times from firing 2 decisions related to scientists fleeing Germany and Italy. That's substantial.

Haven't tried UK yet, will check it out :) But it's a general issue in my opinion. Not that everyone should have everything teched up at any given time, but that there should be an incentive to tech up things that actually were used and not just roll with the strenghts of ones nation and forget most of the rest which the system now kind of promotes.

Kind of like the way the tech system is expanding. Getting to the point you actually have to make decisions about which techs you learn and pass on others. I'd like to see more tech trees expanded.

Or, as you have an ahead of time penalty, get reduction for older techs? By X percent, not sure what would be approriate.

The bonus for learning old techs exists, if your allies have already learned them. If not, you don't know what you don't know. And you can set up tech sharing between allies if you so choose. If you have decided to go off on your own without joining an alliance, this is one of the prices you pay.

Go look at the US and UK decisions. They can get -6% to research times from firing 2 decisions related to scientists fleeing Germany and Italy. That's substantial.

And then there is this for the Allies. Add these to tech sharing and the Allies are doing fine with research.

I agree that techs should be a choice, but we are not really near the point where they are not. I'm not asking for a drastic change, but shave some 10 days here, 15 days there would do quite a bit in the long run. I would be more in favour of reducing general tech time by some amount and scale back most bonuses from focuses somewhat.

I have always wished there was some mechanic to promote similar or older techs. It has always seemed ... odd... that you can end up with modern tanks, nukes, jets and missiles but still not know how to build anti tank guns at all. Even with 1000s captured!

Something on the lines of behind time techs getting increasingly shorter research times in the same way as ahead of time (though to a lesser degree).

And / or tech getting a (small) %boost for each tech already researched in a similar area (not same). Ie, completed fighter 3 research gives a x% boost to cas 1 research.

I have to agree, I'm not a fan of how the tree works right now because it's very "gamey", the lack of bonuses for being behind on tech means that you're forced to hyper specialize, which leads to situations like a Germany that literally doesn't know how to make AT guns, or a Japan that's ignorant of Tank technology after 1936.

Well, from a game perspective perhaps. But it's pretty annoying that Germany can only research about 1/2 of the things it historically did. I wish we were able to research most of the tree and the emphasis would be on how difficult it was to put ideas into production, not the ideas themselves. I really liked HoI3s system where you could research everything, but your production rates would be garbage for areas where you had little expertise for several years. It put the emphasis where it should have been.
