Shouldn't religion-related province modifiers reset when a province is converted?

It seems I inherited a province modifier from the province's previous owner. Not that I mind, on paper. But I chuckled at the notion that there still were shiites around after my missionaries did their business.

Similar question for Mecca after it gets converted - should it still be a religious center?
