I don't know a cold war game could be awesome, With the doomsday clock right in the middle of the upper toolbar, if it ever reaches midnight... game over.

you cut to a cutscene with the earth seen from orbit and mushrom cloud cropping up one after the other and the words.

"Congratulation, you've reached the end, ten millenia of human civilisation has been whiped from the face of the earth it's doubtful if life itself will ever recover. Mankind certainly will not."

fade into view and then out of view again. Judas Priests cathedral spires playing the background.
"So devourer or devoured, time to rise up and retire, watching as a world expires... from up amongst the clouds."

Jokes aside, it would be pretty cool it would finally be a game that showed how horrible war is not just the happy merry map painter that is the other paradox games.
To quote crimson tide:

"In the nuclear world, the true enemy is war itself."
of course that was true long before the nuclear world, and is something that I'd like se see more represented in all paradox games.

That's hyperbolic nonsense. At its worst a Nuclear War would wipe out most of the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere would be almost untouched. Human Civilization would be set back greatly, but it would not be eliminated in its entirety.

Hell, there's even a half way decent chance that the US could survive the war as a political entity.

We had at the peak of the cold war enough nuclear power to nuke the entire surface of the earth... 26 times over.

Sure in theory, but the US and the Soviets wouldn't use all of their nukes. They were operating on the assumption that they'd need to remain a nuclear armed state post-war. Plus they'd use multiple nukes on a single target.

Then we have to talk about the time period on which the war takes place. Up until the sixties(and really the seventies) any Nuclear War would end with the US largely intact.

Perhaps before the invention of the ICBM but the early ICBMs had crappy guidence they'd have spread the destruction out a lot. And oh so they'd hold some back? So they'd perhaps only depopulate earth 13 times, or even just 7 times? You do relasie once is enough, in fact more than enough, add in nuclear fallout, nuclear winter and the blow that it's deliver to the ecosystem and I'm fairly confident that they'd manage to wipe humanity out with a lot less than nuking the entire surface of the world even once. Let's not forget that when the fission reactor in chernobyl blew radioactive materials ended up in northern sweden and norway. It won't kill you of course well not unless you ingest it. But following a nuclear war, with hydrogen bombs mind you not ww2 a bombs, there would be very few places left uncontaminated. In fact some of the isotopes created by nuclear tests and nuclear meltdown don't occur naturally on earth and they can still be found everywhere today.

There's a reason they call it the doomsday clock. There's also a reason that neither sides ever dared pull the trigger (well aside from that one time).

Until there is a proper Paradox Cold War game, they should definitely not make a modern-era game.

You horribly under estimates the effects of nuclear weaponry. Even if not all of humanity died in the original blasts, the ensuing mass famine would be absolutely crippling. The rates of cancer and cancer-related illness will also spike, along with clean-water scarcity that would make the current situation in Africa look good in comparison.

OK, firstly I think any PDox game of this era would have to be HoI-like. And i generally think the HoI is totally unsuited to the PDox platform.

Secondly, I think any game of this era (other than pure wargames) would be totally boring, unless you want totally wacko things going on, leading to the next point.

Something entertaining as a game - there were/are two boardgames of the "distant" past, Nuclear War and Chief of State. Iirc, these are both "Axis and Allies" style games. That is, games that are simply fun and not realistic at all. Oooh, I forgot the game Junta as a brilliant dlc...

Cheers,

State

not to mention the effects a nuclear war will have on global climates and the atmosphere

Yeah cold war till the fall off the soviet Union and the unifacation off germany would be Nice. Than after that it could switch to An fantasy nuclear disaster game into the future bridging the gap to the start date off stellaris. The UN Should be in it though ^^

How about this, we merge Stellaris and HoI into the Warhammer setting and basically play HoI with Space Marines on thousands of planets across the galaxy at once. And then make it MMO. Would only take 15 years and $500 000 000 to make. But should be fun. :)

I think if paradox or another dev make a grand strategy for modern ages, the game should focus on the concepts of soft power, influence, local war games(wars between small states supported by big powers), diplomacy, financial wars, internal politics, ideologic wars, revolutions and trade.

I mean, we need to see aspects of cold war, instead of ww3. Because ww3 concept is not cool enough since after a nuke war there would be no world to govern. So it makes no sense to conquer a wasteland for me.

I believe someone would develop a proper cold war game.

The funny thing is that in a game where we for the frst time could justify a rela time map, it'd be least important. Most things that really matter at the world stage today has very little to do with geography.
