Now that NA is directly hooked up with Europe it is pleasant to see countries colonizing more often in historic regions and doing away with issues of WETN. Unfortunately a side consequence of this has been rendering NA trade nodes widely useless.

Saint-Laurence trade node is about 60 from downstream. This is reasonable and can be outweighed by local provinces.

Chesapeake Bay however has nearly 150 from downstream, courtesy of English Channel. This means that owning pretty much every province in trade node will only give 50% of total trade value.

Caribbean takes it a step above with nearly 400 Trade power courtesy of taping almost every end node in game. Colonizing every province will put you at about 20% of the total value. adding trade posts to every province brings to about 40% of total value.

I don't think there is much desire on developments behalf to lead to trade being worthless from NA due to being fixed quantities for the most part. Of the possible solutions I would think of

A) Putting a cap on maximum downstream trade (Say 50% of node value), which if anything goes over everything gets divided till it fits. This would likely be global however
B) Adding more trade power to provinces in NA. Right now most nodes have 1 trade estuary. The rest of the provinces will require heavy investment to carry any weight. In the critical node of the Caribbean there is no trade power modifiers so it gets completely swamped by downstream trade. Adding random trade provinces (Say as an event that can pop during colonization) would make the game have a little bit more variance and make trade from NA a valuable thing to control.
