Should I westernize as Ethiopia?

Hi!

I'd like to ask your opinion, if I should westernize in 1.8. It is 1610, I'm playing Ethiopia, expanding steadily. I'v recently gained a province near Castille, so in theory I could westernize. However, I'm only three technologies behind, so I'd have to deliberately stay behind and then westernize. Could I survive the process?

Well, from the RP point of view, it doesn't make much sense, I'd probably consider my great country superior to the backward northern barbarians

But I'd like your opinion.

Westernization is really really easy this patch so honestly you should.

You might want to change 1810 in your post. Not everyone bothers to look into the screenshot. Westernisation is always worth it unless you are Eastern/Ottoman tech in my book. Oh, these trade companies as well.

Don't be African Ming, modernise. Your southern neighbours will follow your lead - and while they struggle with rebellions, you can swoop in and add them to your empire. That's what I did - after I was fully westernised, the Mamluks tried to do the same and I crushed them.

Speaking of which, I actually liked the way it was in EU3 - you just basically gain +1 technology group. Maybe it should not be called "westernization" anyway, just "opening the doors while not having our as*es kicked by papists"

I kind of miss the gradual modernisation we had in EU4. Now it's always "backwater -> western".

Everything but western was much more in Eu3, some tech groups could basicly not tech at all.
