I JUST got HOI2 and I'm loving it. I've been playing about a week now, but I;ve been wondering about the next installment in the series.

From what I understand, the only REAL change from orginal HOI2 to DD is that you can play for a few more years (1953? vs 1948)...which for some reason doesn't appeal to me - I guess I want to keep it in the context of WWII.

With that said, is there any real changes in DD? Should I even bother?

Thanks

you should have bought DD from the start.

The changes include a better AI and quite some changes to intel system and minor changes to many things.

The changes include a better AI ...

So what does better AI mean exactly. They perform more tactical maneuvers? They support/attack you and their allies/enemies better?

Or does it just mean that code has been written so the outcomes in battles favors the AI more?

BTW, I appreciate the reply!

The AI is more challenging and there are some new features that are really nice.

Also there is the Armageddon add-on pack that adds even more features.

However if you are going to upgrade i recommend getting the Anthology.... you get a nice medal and map and a nice icon under your name when you register it.

Doomsday is superior in most ways (and many mods only support it and not vanilla HoII), but I personally don't like the spying system at all. It seems sort of useless and the AI doesn't use it well at all. Mano a mano it isn't that exciting either, though it's not as bad as when the AI tries to use the system.
