playing argentina in 1936. i have "absorbed" uruguay, chile and brazil. it's now 1939, and i'm waiting for chaos to begin so i can decide on my next step. my belligerence is at 41 so i'm wary about an american dow. my ic is at 41/36

i'm now a little over my TC load, so i've been thinking about maybe releasing a puppet and getting rid of some useless provinces. i've always been an "annex everything" player, and wonder if puppeting could in some instances be better.

my take right now is this:
the good part is that i'll get TC under control, get more resources, and lower my belligerence

the bad part is that i'll lose some IC (i'll want 4 more IC for an extra tech team), puppet troops could be of lower quality, and i have no control over what they produce

so is it a good idea for an argentina taking over south america to try puppeting? also what precautions could one take to avoid or delay war with the USA - i don't think i can win a direct war with them. i'm producing 3 militias to station at every beach province, will that keep me safe?

Against an US-attack? Hardly. Against the rest of the south american bunch? Should be. Puppetting is good because they get some base IC which they will use for troops you can command. Hell better than do it yourself. Only problem is the techtree.

what should i station at every beach province to keep me safe from US landings? i was going to use militia to conserve manpower, but i suppose i could use garrison or infantry. how many of those would be necessary at each beach head?

actually there is a critical question. by puppeting do i get any of the puppet's IC? puppeting looks promising but i really want 4 more IC for a tech team :p

AFAIK, nope... only surplus ressources...

In some games, I protected my beaches with 1 GAR - they defended well against attacks with 3 divisions (except marines). But of course, against a determined attack, they're almost worthless...

dang...

i remember in vanilla hoi2 attacking a beach with more than 3 divs results in massive invader penalties. i assume this is still true in DD, and that if i defend a beach with enough to repel 3 divs of anything other than marine i'd be quite safe - probably 3 gar or inf. of course the DD AI could surprise me with marines, i'm hoping not

oh crap that doesn't sound good! ironically the game is now crashing in feb 1940 so i might be spared the wrath. i'm running into manpower shortages already, so if i can't get this save to continue i'll just start a commie USA game and build my own marines!
