Should I claim Frances throne?

I'm playing a game as Portugal and I just noticed that someone from my house, De Avis is sitting on the throne of France. Without an heir. I'm sort of afraid too, but, should I claim throne? I mean getting a PU with them would be...insane. But I have no idea if its worth the risk, or if there is any risk haha.

Just looking for some tips. Tell me, what would YOU do in this situation?

personally i wouldn't do it because just like the HYW if you get the PU you've basically won the game. really if you want the PU do it just make sure you got decent alliances and a decent navy

Not worth it unless you know you can beat them in the endless independence wars that will ensue. As Portugal, you probably need both Austria and Spain on your side to be safe and to be a good deterrent for France not act up once you lock them in.

It boils down to your ability to militarily enforce the claim with the Claim Throne CB and then quell any future uprising with the Restore Union CB.

If you are stronger than France, do it. If you aren't, consider whether you *could be* given debts - this is worth taking loans to go over forcelimits. If the answer is still no - then don't.

If you go to war with them, try to get their doomstacks to attack you in mountains.

Ya I can imagine they would be dragging me into independence wars all the time...and it'd be hard to keep relations up. So IDK. Right now my only ally BESIDES France is Aragon. Me and him together aint enough to stand up to the BBB I don't think

If you want better advice post your latest savefile to some cloud service like Dropbox and Ill take a look

Invading France as Portugal is going to be hard work if you haven't expanded in Europe, and even if you succeed, you will suffer a lot of aggressive expansion and some majors may back French independence or start desiring 'your' French provinces. I would make sure that at least Spain plus one other major (England or Austria) is your ally before you do it.

if you have higher miliary rating then france, they won't declare independance. So, if you expanded enough and built a big army with trade, go for it.

Having Austria, England and Austria as ally will make it easy. Independance war? Let them. If they do so, let them release guyenne and conquer it for yourself after. You can feed Guyenne to a closeby vassal like Brittany or Provence. Provence being the best idea.

Just.. do it. It spices things up.

you don't get ae anymore for force PU wars. What you get now for force Pu France is maybe 20-30 ae. Nothing serious.

Do it. Worst case scenario is that France will break free.
