I am playing Scotland and it just turned 1500. England has been reduced to 4 provinces and I have started colonizing the New World. The option to change tp Protestant has popped up and I am curious which denomination people think is better for a colonizer? Catholicism gives a 0.5 extra colonist but and +20% colonist chance but Protestantism gives the +10% production efficiency and tax modifier. What do people think?

Tax doesn't really matter in overseas provinces and 5.2 limited the production efficiency to 200%, which can be reached pretty easily. It's easy enough to stack tolerance of heretic modifiers to the point where religion doesn't matter at all if you don't want to be bothered with mass-converting.

How large do you see your colonial efforts becoming? Do you have any trade plans?

It is starting to look like a moot point as over half of my British Isle provinces have converted to Protestant. At this rate I will be all Protestant in Europe within a decade.

I intend to be a massive colonizer. I have 8 colonies currently, all in the New England/MidCoast region, and 4 former colonies that have become cities, the two Greenland provinces and the two Newfoundland provinces. I have both Land of Opportunity and Colonial Ventures as National Ideas along with Military Drill and National Trade Policy. I have annexed the Hurons also. My trade system is very healthy, max Free Trade slider and 6 COTs with 5 merchants in them. I only own one, the one I took from the Hurons.

I do have a question on colonies and religion. My current colonies are Catholic, if I convert to Protestant and then send a colonist to a colony, does it remain Catholic or convert to Protestant? That could reduce my conversion requirements greatly. Thanks.

Colony changes to Protestant when a colonist arrives after you converted. If you don't send one, it will stay the same. You might get religious immigrants changing the colonies religion after sending a colonist.
As said above, Protestantism can be very detrimental to a colonial empire due to -0.5 colonists/year compared to Reformed or Catholic. You can definitely still combine those, though, but you will want to grab the NI colonial ventures pretty early.

Well, in my last Huron Game, Hurons grabbed all that can be grabbed...as Protestant, but if I went Reformed, I could possibly prevent Sardinia/Austria/Prussia/whatever from colonizing SA

It can be seen by cultural map (some of Huroned areas is done by convertion of animists)
No europeans has been converted to Huron

But yes, it's better be Reformed to eat empty provs (still, I prefer Protestantism)
