So i like paradox and i like the "historical" aspects of their games i am a huge fan of EU3 i like Vicky 2 i don't understand CK i liked HoI2 and HoI3 seems to complex for me and what i am wondering is should i buy Rome? Do you think i would like it and Gold is only 10 bucks for digital download on amazon so i'm just gonna ask if i should.

First off, you probably will find out if you like it or not only once you have played it. In comparison with other games it is more character oriented like CK/CKII and Sengoku, but not maybe so complex as CK. You can go off to conquer but you do need to keep an eye on your interior affairs and trying to avoid civil wars. Which can be more challenging than any neighbour since weakened by it can easily turn your neighbour at you as well.

Also, i think it might be cheaper on GamersGate - link.

First thing I was disappointed with was the lack of options for playable factions. Then the lack of depth in the barbarian tribes, it's stupidly hard and time consuming for them to gain territory. So really the only good games are as Rome, Carthage, Egypt, the Selucids and Macedonia. So compared to EU3 or Vicky your choices are really limited. However, even playing the same faction twice can be quite different as the internal politics are quite fun.

You will definitely get $5 worth of play out of it but imo it's the weakest paradox game I've played.

Although I overall prefer Paradox over TW games, I think EU:Rome simply doesnt have the same immersion like TW:Rome. Ive played it for few hours and somehow I was missing the ancient roman feeling, the thing TW had from sec 1. It was like a cheap "patch" for EUIII. So despite many collegues here on the board I would not recommend it.

That's not true. I recently had good games as Bosphoran Kingdom and Pontus. Sparta and other Greek minors are also interesting to play. Armenia and Iberia are also quite interesting and bit different factions. And Illyria is always fun to play. Also with barbarans like Rhoxolani it's rather easy to expand, just because it's difficult with some barbarians, doesn't mean that it's difficult with all barbarians.

Funny, I never really learned to like Rome:TW, while EU: Rome hooked me instantly. I find Rome's political system (with different factions in senate), much more interesting than anything which TW series has ever offered.

Rome:TW is tactical oriented game with little bit of strategy and EU:Rome is 100% strategy game. Do not compare them. Don`t buy it if you don`t like CK.

and EU:Rome is 100% strategy game.

The first time I gave Sparta a shot to learn game mechanics, Ive built a decent army, declared war on neighboring- one province Argolis, defeated their army, which retreated to my province. So I was besieging their town and they mine- they had luck, conquered my province- game over. Next time I gave a shot to Macedonia, maybe things will go better. I simply couldnt get any proper casus belli on my neighbours, so every dow cost me 3 stab hits- when I managed to save some money after DoW it went away for "sacrifice"- So my entire "strategy" was collecting money for sacrificing- the silliest idea ever IMO. The rest of the game "strategy" was hunting enemies / rebels down with never ending ping-ponging battles. After my experience it was like 5% strategy and 95% just annoying things. Last but not least the music didnt reach the level of othe Pdox game either. It just seemed to me that they wanted to squeeze out more money out of EU- IMHO Rome is the worst title of Paradox, after playing Vicky II and EUIII you will be disappointed. But that shouldnt hold you off from trying it, maybe you will like it, or maybe an expansion will come come out, which can do wonders to Paradox games ;)

You had bad luck with Sparta, with bit of strategy it's actually rather easy. One of the easies opening gambits to gain military access and possibly alliance with Macedonia and then attack Aetolia instead of Argolis. After Aetolian defeat Argolis is between your provinces and should be easy pickings. With bit of luck Epirus has lost Sicily after that and is OPM, which can't oppose the Spartan might. Then you can consider betraying Macedonia and attacking against them or taking Illyria. After you have built Greek powerbase expansion is rather easy.
