I just bought it; buying it will give you a key. When you redeem the code in steam you then get the code for each individual game.
For examples, lets assume you get the code 1-2-3-4. You redeem this in steam and when you then click on "show product key" you get the different keys for the expansion (semper fi, motherland, darkest hour).
So that will split up into different keys basically.
But that's after redeeming code, so I won't have spare HoI 3 key, right?

Yes. You will not have any spare keys. However, you can obviously still register the game on the forums by copying the product key and pasting it. I would not think too much about it, I have never encountered any problems with redeeming games on Steam.

I would not buy any strategy guide when all you need to know is here on the forums and/or game manual.. but that is my opinion SM has a different one as he gets paid when you buy it. :p

SM also gives plenty of free advice on the forum, but if you ever want to know what I truly think of most topics related to land warfare, read the book. Even misterbean thinks it's pretty good, and his tutorial in the AAR section is considered the gold standard by many. :)

I did watch some of those videos, and while they are not bad at all, they are constructed a bit dry. However, I still think it is pretty good for new players.

Lol not really, but I´d give 6 months before really trying it.

I sadly did not have the joy to play a Paradox game on release. Is it better than what CA pulls of or why how did that image of PDS came into being?

I tried playing Turkey. I build up some infantry divisions, increased Bulgrais threat, regrouped my Hierachy and even though I outnumbered them 4:1 I got my ass kicked. Maybe I should have paid more attention when I was watching youtube tutorials. Any tips?

Also as Turkey, raising threat only on Bulgaria is a poor choice. This is because:
The ruling party of Bulgaria has the same ideology group (fascist) as your government, and thus does not look very threatening to Turkey, and also Bulgaria has relatively few IC. The nation you also want to raise threat on is the Soviet Union, because they are mighty, and those commies look really dangerous to your paternal autocrats.

If you really want to get yourself going, align to the Axis and raise threat on the UK (as opposed to the Soviets). You will be at war with the UK sooner then the Soviets (whom you dont want to piss off any sooner then necessary) and this gives you an opportunity in the Middle East for some conquest. If you think your going to remain neutral thats not a likely choice overall, youll have to choose a faction (and have all 3 as viable for you).

But Bulgaria looked so weak and easy to annex :(

Sounds like a good idea! I am going to try to go for France/Iraq this time!

Your misunderstanding me. Its ok to go for Bulgaria...just dont bother raising threat on them. Also once your in the Axis youll get free DOWs (no need to raise threat on nations).

If you want to play Turkey, here is my suggestions...

1) Align with the Axis, eventually join.
2) Spend all your research on improving your nation (industry tab & supply techs in the theory tab).
3) Immediately start selling supplies to the Soviet Union, buy resources from the US. Leave enough profit so that your making a min. of $1 a day profit, so you start to accumulate wealth.
4) When your in the Axis, start buying Product licenses (everything you want pretty much) from Germany & Japan.
5) Then decide your goals in regards to conquering.

Sounds nice! I tried that and it really worked well, but I fucked up research so I scrapped it. I had a question about production licenses. Sometimes when I purchase them, I get a wierd black thing being produced in my production tab and it is instantly finished and it can also be deployed but doesn't possess any stats, doesn't have any pictures and has no upkeep. This has only happened to me when I bought production licenses. Also, how do I dig-in my troops when preparing for a defensive and when should I do it and when shouldn't I? Also, which nation is good for beginner's and has a lot of diplomatic freedom (playing Turkey was really nice, but I would like to try something new).
Thank you very much for helping me, it is nice when players who understand such a complex game help newbies like me :)

There is sometimes a bug with PLs. Before you buy PLs save the game. As soon as you get them, check your production queue to make sure they look normal, otherwise reload and try again. What i find works is this. When you want to buy a PL the first thing you do before even picking the item is move the slider towards 0 $, then pick the item, then pick how many you want, THEN start to move the slider, adding $ until it seems likely theyll say yes. This seems to eliminate the bug usually. IF, I say IF when you move the slider to 0$ it still says they will sell you the PLs, its buggy, get out of it wait a day and retry the steps above. Also if your in the Axis compare Germany and Japan, often Japan will sell items cheaper. Japan will train the Forest tech before Germany, so if thats something you want (if your buying INF), and believe it or not Germany usually has better CLs early on. Leave your troops alone, theyll dig in.

I suggest you try playing Brazil. They are a good size nation, you can join any faction, you have no enemies on your border to worry about. If you go axis, do the same thing as above...build your nation up and buy PLs. Make coastal forts in each of your ports (go up to 10 if you can) and place 2 divisions in each. If you join the Axis, go to war with the Allies and try and grab the territory up north (UK/French/Dutch) as thats likely where an invasion will come from. The French territory will turn over to Vichy France, which may cause you a problem (leaves an opening for the allies). Do not invade any South American nation until the USA is fully embroiled with Japan or they will hit you with the wrath of god.

You can get Lendlease from Germany, Japan and Italy (although Italy wont be able to reach you until they take the Suez or Gibralter). which will give you a crapload of IC. If you want to have some fun...buy about 4-6 landingcraft PLs from Japan, take those along with your entire navy and about 6 infantry divisions and ship them to Sardinia (Italian island north of Tunisia, west of Sicily). When Germany invades Poland, load the troops up and send them to the Atlantic (just past Gibralter). DOW the Allies and amphib Gibralter (leave 3-4 divisions there). This would allow you to begin getting Lendlease (from Italy) right from the start of the war, and it also will hurt the UK by closing off half the med.

When your ready to make an enemy of the USA (all your ports have forts and divisions in them), launch an amphib from Northern Brazil (the UK conquered area is best) into Colombia. Make sure you have at least 10-12 divisions (some German armor would be nice) so all in all you should be 10-15 landingcraft from Japan. Take Colombia and head straight for Panama and close the canal. This will really hurt the USA. Fortify the hell out of it, coastal and land forts, airbases etc... the USA will send wave after wave to their doom trying to take it back.

The trouble comes when nations that border you go Ally, allowing for troops to enter there. Use Panama as a choke point. Fortify it well, then you can start taking other South American territory. take the ones up north first as they will need to be fortified the most. Eventually the Allies wont be able to reach you buy sea, only certain spots.

Go get them!

Your welcome. Enjoy!

With a smaller country, it's all about priorities. You can research basic INF techs and the most critical Doctrines (to increase ORG and Morale), and perhaps ART techs and doctrines, but License-building aircraft, armor, or naval escorts (capital ships can't be licensed) usually makes more sense, depending on whether or not you can afford the Leadership to research your own. With a mid-sized industrialized country, I generally can only afford to develop ONE of those supplemental units, and even then can't always keep current without slipping on the basic INF techs.

In a recent game, playing Hungary, I license-built a couple of Tank Destroyers from GER. While the armor was soon obsoleted to the point where a Boyscout with a pocket-knife could penetrate the armor, I was able to keep the gun relatively current with a pair of AT gun techs, so it was still fairly useful against Soviet armor several years later. Meanwhile, the tanks (ARM) I license-built after the TDs were soon totally obsolete, since they required multiple levels of 4 different Medium Armor techs to remain current, which had to be unlocked first by researching multiple levels of 4 different Light Armor techs. With a major country, you can do all of those simultaneously; with a minor, it's a struggle to keep up with one.

As for waiting for HOI4, the basic HOI3 game was all but unplayable until at least the 1.3 patch. There were a few small "details" missing, like WWII. Countries would randomly declare war over minor events, so the main power blocs rarely formed, and you ended up with the UK at war with Spain, Germany fighting China, or other equally absurd combinations, as well as Japan launching an amphibious invasion of Finland in almost every game. The developers apparently gave up on the original "semi-sandbox" concept and turned it into an "on rails" scripted game, where things happened on the exact same day every time. It's been improved a bit since, despite each expansion creating almost as many bugs as it solved, and requiring further patches, but I wouldn't rush out and buy the next version of the game until it's been thoroughly "checked out" by the gaming community.

Which countries are countries where you really have to fight to survive or where you primarily fight to survive than fight to conquer? I like playing smaller nations and trying to see how well I can survive.
