You should definitely try ck2 (as it's free to play, but pity that you will be missing out on sooo much). I cannot decide whether CK2 is better than EU4.. After I play CK2, I think it is the best game ever made, but then if I play EU4, I think CK2 is meh... then the cycle begins again :)
Definitely get CK3 asap, so you can get the DLCs as they come out, not afte 7 years :-D

That's a very questionable advise to say the least.
Huh? Well, if you want to get the full CK2 now, it would cost a fortune. Regardless of what you think of Paradox's policy about DLCs, they are here to stay, so it's better to get on board at the very beginning.
I don't really see what is questionable about my adviCe... Care to explain?

I can tell you atleast to buy EU4 instead of EU5 based on every paradox grand strategy released after EU4.
I see.. well, I did make that mistake with Imperator, but CK3 actually looks good, so I'm giving Paradox a last chance. And if it's crap, no amount of free DLCs like with Imperator will fix the disappointment...

CK3 is an unreleased game. Nobody played it yet. It's hard to give you advice on this matter. It could either be better than CK2 under every aspect or be the usual PDX rushed release filled with bugs, half baked mechanics and unbalanced factions. We won't know until it's out.

Wait release, wait reviews, then make an informed decision. In the meanwhile vanilla CK2 is free so no reason to wait on that. Only the dlcs require monetary investment.

Yeah--get CK2 for free, play it for a bit, and if you like it, get whichever DLCs you want (there are multiple threads about what DLCs are best to get if you want to search for them) and then wait and see what the reaction to CK3 is. If you wait a bit to buy it, it will almost certainly go on sale at some point.

You can buy a game that's finished and free, or a game that's just released (some combination of incomplete, buggy, and unbalanced) and costs full price. That's a really obvious choice to make.

Also note that The Old Gods costs your email address, so that's one of the more important DLCs for free right there. CK2 is a good game with just that, or you can spend $10-15 when the DLCs are on sale and get the rest of the important ones, for whatever your definition of "important" is (see the other threads DPS mentioned to dig into that). And Paradox occasionally gives away a DLC, so you may be able to grab a low-importance DLC that way at some point.

CK2 is free on steam, download it and play. Wait to purchase CK3 instead of buying the CK2 DLC.

It might be possible that Paradox will roll out the subscription DLC model in the future though. I know they are already testing it out on EU4, but not sure how successful that is so far.

That is a complete no-go for me.It might work for games which are years old and which could cost hundreds, but for a new game it would be absurd. In the long run, subscriptions end up costing a lot more. It's probably ok for silly games which have a few dozen hours of content (which seems to be what major studios release these days) but Paradox games last years (unless they are Imperator Rome, of course ;))

It entirely depends on your gaming patterns. I tend to ignore CK2 for months at a time, then play it non-stop for a month and abandon it again. For me, a subscription mode would very likely be cheaper.
