It bugs me a little that Humanoids are stuck with the default Mammalian shipset, despite being a separate set of portraits. I can understand the rationale behind this, though. After all, Humanoids are a subset of the Mammalian phenotype, they were added as a free expansion, Mammalian ships were designed with Humans in mind, and don't spawn all that often.

But still, I think it would be cool if they had their own unique ships and stations. Anyone else feels the same?

Personally, I dislike the idea of each species having different shipset. I would prefer if shipset was determined by empire's ethos. Also, different color sets would be great.

Ships will be coloured after your flag in 1.5, so that's taken care of. As for Ethos... eh. I'd really rather that shipset was just... random, at least for the AI. Lemme uplift some birdpeople and see them have Fungoid ships. Players can do it- why not the AI?

Also, I feel like if anything, the Mammalian set should be the Humanoid one and the Mammalians should get a custom set.

To be more frank humanoids is just a stupid made up category, it should not even exist. :)

A separate shipset for Humanoids would be cool of course, but that takes time and resources...
The problem is that realistically there shouldn't be two races in game with the same shipset, but we can't have that. So now we get different colours to differentiate a bit and that's nice.
Even more personalization would be nice to make different races more unique, like:
maybe an option to select the hulls metal, place the empires emblem,...

This is also interesting and shouldn't be outright dismissed:

or based on the government type. But I don't think it's going to happen :D

While more customization options for empires is always nice, I doubt PI will make a subset for them. You already stated a few points justifying this, but here are a two reasons extra reasons. First, the development resources required to make ships models is quite high and would compete with new species group they might want to add. Second, considering the reception, by some, of the Plantoid DLC, it is very unlikely that they will release a DLC for a specie that is already in the game. (I personally liked the Plantoid DLC, but that's not the point).
