You share dynasties already, why does it need to be railroaded even further?

Indeed, he could get the throne by the normal PU rules. the reverse in my Castile run, as I got PU over Naples as we were same dynasty with a succession war against Aragon.

Once you have a PU you can never fall into PU passively, it has to be via enforce Union or event (burgundy and Hungary are the only one iirc)

Naples strat would be, reset until aragon rivals castile and vice versa, wait until death of alfonso, ally castile, rival aragon, enforce Union. Break allaince with castile once aragon is loyal, then wait to enforce Union. Hope Austria abandons Italy early or join hre to protect yourself from papal state

I guess...but I did a Not Just Pizza Run recently and I wouldn't want to claim their throne anyway.

My advice would be, declare independence yourself. 2/4 of the following will always support your independence, Burgundy, Castile, England, France. In my run, England and France joined forces (preventing the Maine event from firing) to attack Castile + Aragon. It was easy. You can get back Sicily with no AE in the first war and they'll almost definitely support the second war. In the mean time you can form the Two Sicilies and have really strong ideas.
