Because 1 and a half ringworld is better than 1? And to teach you your place in the galaxy.

Think about it from an utilitarian standpoint, it would take generally less resources to make you fix their damaged ringworlds.

Not to mention that they have one completely broken themselves in the beacon of perpetuity.

Like why would they want you to hand over a ringworld when they have one that just needs a "little" repairing?

Because they have Tachyon Lances and aren't afraid to use them?

So will my empire by the time I'll be able to build ringworlds.

Actually, I would expect the territory of a Fallen Empire to be littered with Megastructures, in different stages of disrepair.

Specially the Guardians of Knowledge.

While you do have a point, there is to be still considered that being scientific (they are fanatical materialistic after all) they'd rather choose the option that leads to them spending the least resources. It wouldn't take too much brainpower of theirs to figure out that forcing an empire to fix their ringworlds would be easier than to force them to hand them over. And they'd also figure out that if said empire possesses such technologies they might have a fleet capable of competing with theirs.

Not to mention also the geography of the galaxy might come into play, the ruined ringworlds lay in their territory, by the middle of it, wouldn't they want to have them fixed rather than trying to take ringworlds from other empires that might even lay at the other side of the galaxy?

Sure, but this still assumes a level of ambition that they don't seem to have, at least not in their stagnant ascendancy state. Say you fix their abandoned ring world, all well and good. But now they have to revisit their population growth policies, suddenly they're forcing family's to produce more than the 2 kids just so they can have a population to recolonize it and that's really aggravating because nobody wants to spend another 30 years of their life raising children into adulthood. They have to have committee meetings to decide who they are going to force to abandon their idyllic lives to go start anew on the untamed and protean ring world, these decisions need to be made without upsetting the careful balance that has seen them well for the past thousand years. You know that's going to include a lengthy appeals process from those unlucky enough to be picked. The populations then need to be transferred, so suddenly they're dusting off their old colony ship schematics. Except those schematics are ridiculously out of date and unsafe for travel, so now we need a new committee to convene regarding the design and construction of new colony vessels.

There's a reason these guys are stagnant.

Oh...good points.

But then again, if they conquered another ringworld they'd find themselves with another huge structure to fill and unless they cleanse it first, they'd need to convert the population to their fanatically exclusive materialistic ways.

There's a reason these guys are stagnant.

Stagnation is always fun! Then again, there are instances where the FE do... eccentric actions, like taking the data on a dead species from your hands in exchange for basically not going DEFCON1 when you purge entire species of primitives by the dozen and allowing you access to their territory. On that, the Fanatic Xenophile FE asks you to give a entire pop of your species for their galactic zoo planet, and it should be noted that they should have been doing this with basically every species for the past few thousand years. Their galactic zoo should be overrun by thousands of species. Even if they only bring in species they find interesting, the numbers should be close to hundreds of sentient pops close to the heart of their stagnant civilisation.
I'm quite sure that the Fanatic Materialist FE would consider taking in your head engineers of the ringworld project a gift to said engineers since they'd be able to work alongside peers that are much more knowledgeable than them on a similar project, much like they sometimes ask you to give them your best scientist.

I actually had a spiritualist empire react to my ringworld frame. They started telling me it was a sign of the apocolypse and asked if they could come to inspect it. I shrugged my shoulders and said yes, and a few days later they concluded there was no problem

Maybe they could demand that you help them with that in exchange of some kind of reward?

Being as smug as always?

And making you pay for it? XD

"You will build us a wall in space and pay us for the privilege of doing so"

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Has anyone found any wrecked mega structures yet? I've not played as much as I want to (I'm self employed and the boss is a real jerk), but finding and possibly completing such things (or at least getting super large construction from studying the project) would be really cool.

Maybe even with a couple of events around it - a remnant tribe of regressed galactic builders living in the slowly decaying worker habitats ringing the half-finished dyson sphere, doing ritual "jobs" that have little to do with the actual work required to finish it as an inherited task to hopefully some day "return to paradise" (a broken ringworld 4 systems over, bombed into slag by an enemy).

Just something nice to join the mega structures to the landscape rather than have them just be something extra for cash.

Oh man, I feel like there should be a extra type of event triggered if you demolish a Holy World to make a megastructure. I kinda feel like they should immediately declare war on your empire with "Purge" repeatedly in their War Goals.
Yeah never mind the fact that this is not possible to begin with seeing that you can't construct dyson spheres or ring worlds when a habitable planet exists in the system.

I completely agree with this, lets just say that in a game that I just started and finished a Ring World and I had 2 fallen empires right next to me and I was on edge because I was like one of these fallen empires will take notice and awaken or both will and demand that I stop construction. I must admit that I felt a little disappointed that me starting and finishing a ringworld didn't get a fallen empires attention, what do I mean a fallen empires attention? I mean this they notice an upstart civilization building a ringworld or any megastructure, so they awaken or all of them awaken and then demand that construction of the ringworld or other megastructures be stopped immediately or face the consequences

Why should they care what their inferiors do? When you see a primitive species developing fire, do you send in the space marines and say "Stop that you fool! You have no idea what you are meddling with!"?

The fallen empires don't either (unless it's AI, which apparently has a theoretical chance of dooming us all, unlike megastructures).

They care about a lot of things - I just can't imagine that a Fallen Empire that desparately attempts to hide the fact it no longer knows how to use much of its technology (source: the broken ring worlds, debris on planets, the fact they do not ever upgrade/build their highly advanced resource buildings and an event in the shroud where you get to listen in to two Fallen Empire dignitaries discussing things) would not react to the fact that a race is building a ringworld right next to them.

Not if they get mad at you for researching AI, pursuing robotics or ascending.
