As title said. Should extravagant clothing be more unique and less freely available? I would imagine a good looking set of kingly outfit should cost a considerable amount. I don't think just because you won the duchy title in a war meaning that you can just magically have the outfit ready.

Another reason for this is to give the player a "sense of pride and accomplishment" /s. This will lead to players hunting for the best looking outfit in the game and actively looking for ways to best dress their characters.

Finally, this will set up perfectly for cosmetics packs to be more desirable, since clothing will become a much more prominent part of the game, giving players more incentive to buy cosmetics. Which leads to more mods adding cosmetics. Which leads to even more enthusiasm. The circle continues and we ended up with Team Fortress 2 hats.

Think about it.

I personally hope, there won't be clothing DLCs accompanying bigger DLCs as I really didn't like to buy a seperate DLC tied to other DLC just so I can have a flavor of said DLC added into a game. Portrait updates and Clothing should now be part of those Flavor Expansions, or Minor Expansion and thats it. If it is focused on the particular region or era, it should containt every content there is to it.

On the other note, There is a certain tier style to european clothing in CK3. Your regular counts have normal dresses. Duke tier adds ornamental decoration to clothes and a coronet on the head. King tier adds a cape over the shoulders and replaces coronet with a crown. There should also be a dressing room, where you can change your clothes midgame :)

This might not entirely address your idea, but I was kinda thinking about this when one of the demos did a quick preview of the Barbershop that gives you the ability to edit the appearance of your current character. It didn't look like there were any restrictions really on what type of dress you could select, but it could just be to show off everything. Similar to your point, I agree that attire should more unique and limited to the rank that a character has obtained. CKII sorta did this with portraits and with artifacts likes crowns, scepters, cloaks, etc. So I think, within in each ruler rank, there might be additional tiers of attire that can be obtained by characters based off stats, commissioning/purchasing, or events etc. If a ruler just obtained the Duke title, they shouldn't be all decked out in extravagant clothing, specially if they were just a count. Maybe they start at tier one and they could potentially spend a large sum of money to "purchase or commission clothing that befits their new status", giving them active bonuses--like artifacts. Something to that effect. Or a simpler way is that new tiers of clothing are unlocked based off your dynasty Splendor, unlocking Dynasty Legacies, or spending Renown.

As title said. Should extravagant clothing be more unique and less freely available? I would imagine a good looking set of kingly outfit should cost a considerable amount. I don't think just because you won the duchy title in a war meaning that you can just magically have the outfit ready.

I'm confused.
So you want to pay for cosmetic item DLC's and then spend all game hunting around for them?

The only thing worse than CK3 being plagued by clothing DLC is by not having it unlocked in the game...

I belive that he's envisioning clothing somewhat similar to artifacts in CK2, i.e. actually bestowing gameplay benefits rather than being purely cosmetic.

Didn't they said artifacts were kinda mistake?

For NPCs, clothing is meant to serve as a replacement for the "frames" we had in CK2. You should be able to tell at a glance how important someone is by how fancy they are dressed. For the player, you can use to barbershop to look however you want, which makes sense as you don't need a visual reminder of what rank you are at. As long as there is a good variety of crowns, especially ones tied to specific titles, you will have some clothing that has to be earned by holding the appropriate title.

Yikes my guy, clothing micro-transactions would be literal cancer for this game. Now if they include a bunch of clothing templates in a region-flavor DLC, which also has actual gameplay features, then I'm all for it. But literally asking for nickle and dime clothing DLC is straight up Abyss Gazing

I don't think many people would enjoy hunting for clothing in a game like CK3.
Hunting for rare books, symbolic jewelry or charismatic weaponry is one thing, but clothing... unless it has special properties I don't see why I would. And I'm not sure how clothing could have specific properties, except in very rare, supernatural cases (like the hide of the Nemean lion, the Megingjord or seven league boots).

Nah, I meant that the artifacts were too many and too powerful. The technical system itself was fine to me, and I haven't really heard anyone complain about it either. :)

If they stick with some less powerful items and limit how much you can stack on one character, artifacts could be a lot of fun. It is great storytelling to have a famous sword passed down or an extra fancy crown for an old and storied kingdom. You don't need a vault full of assorted artifacts that combine to make every ruler a god among men.

I kinda hope for not too many extra DLCs. They should be part of larger expansions.
I don't think they'll go the CK II route again - look at HoI IV's DLC for a likely example.

They should definitely have unique outfits you unlock through achievements and such.

Why all the trouble with clothing? First several nudity threads, now this... :D There are other games for dressing up, you know)

On a more serious note, medieval clothing was highly linked to status - and, unless I'm much mistaken, devs have claimed that the barbershop's clothing will be restricted accordingly.
