Should bio ascended clones be able to make unlimited clone vats?

I feel like they should not be limited by the ancient cloning vats at that point and should be able to replicate the technology but inferior. For balance, they already cost food to make pops, is slow compared to having both growth and pop assembly, and they cost a building slot.

Its kinda disappointing if the only options we get is to be a regular empire or be a regular empire using other pops. I kinda like the mechanical change of the building based pop growth and limitations.

I think a repeatable technology (so it gets progressively more expensive) for +1 ancient clone vats that you unlock via an ascension perk (Either as a bonus to genetic ascension, since it is useless for your primary species, or a stand alone perk) would be a nice addition.

I had hoped to play some fanatic purifier clones in an upcoming MP, but I dropped that idea when I realised the 5 clone vats is a hard limit :(

I like the idea of giving every vat above five a nanite cost. They're very rare after all, and typically a late game thing. Having any other easier method feels like it pulls the rug out from under what makes the origin special. It's a really different kind of game where you start off growing rapidly, but you're severely capped beyond that. Having origins that lead to quite different play styles is great for the game. If clone soldiers could be assembled regularly then it's not really that different, it would be an early game boost, a mid-game lul, then a typical late game as your bio-ascension perk is online.

Compared to what it is now where its only interesting till you get other pops via migration or conquest? The best part about being void dweller is that you can commit to that playstyle. You can't do that with clones. I thought it would be much more interesting to be able to commit to being clones and propagate as nothing but clones.

Their whole "clone" thing becomes irrelevant really quickly.

Swap in robot factories after reaching clone pop limit, conquer more robots. Build megastructures for resources. Go crisis. Try to be psionic without being spiritualist. Win game. 100 clone pops does not limit the size of your navy, and droids can make alloys.

I was planning on going spiritualist so wouldn't be using robots.

Maybe unlimited clone vats is too much. Maybe a special building that increases pop limit and normal access to clone vats.

Maybe after you bio-ascend you get a repeatable tech? +1 ancient clone vat per repeatable.

Or do it like a Relic, with a 10-year cooldown to increase your supply by +1.

I was planning on going spiritualist so wouldn't be using robots.

You could bypass this by making a second custom empire of the same species (without the clone origin). Somewhere along the line you will find them in your galaxy and you can decide to conquer them or maybe a migration treaty.

Is it a bypass or will the conquered clone vats just auto-destruct?
Clone vats are immediately destroyed when owned by an empire that does not have the Clone Army Origin.

Clone empire conquers another Clone Empire. What happens then?
First, let me say that I haven't tested it, I'm only telling from looking at the game files.

But apparently, if the conquering Clone Empire is not synth ascended and has not re-enabled fertility through their event, then the conquered clone vats will remain.
But if the total amount of clone vats they have is more than 5, I'm guessing the extra ones will be disabled... or maybe all of them, I don't know.

Agreed.

Make it expensive and rare...but *possible*.

Hard limitations on our imagination is not why we fire up Stellaris every day :D
