Should a noob begin with the complete Victoria 2 version?

Hi there,

I've just bought the complete Victoria 2 game and I'm wondering if, as a total newbie, I should suspend installing and using House Divided and Heart of Darkness till I have grasped the fundamentals by playing the basic version. Do these extensions change things to the point that some strategy guides and tutorials based on the original are less useful to learners?

IMHO you should go gor the full version. HOD and AHD are improvements to the game, and you can learn the fundamentals with them activated. You dont need yo learn the old colonisation system, or the old naval combat system if you are never going to use them later.

There is no reason not to get all of the DLC. The DLC in this series were basically game mechanics that were integral parts of the game.

The game is barely playable without the DLC (even if I easily played about 600 hours before HoD came out).

At the time of Victoria, expansions weren't called DLCs yet.

With paradox games, always get the latest version, with all the expansions/dlc. They always add a ton of features/gameplay mechanics with updates, so you can't really learn the mechanics on an outdated base game.

Play the game the way you want. Don't let others tell you how, or what, to play. I don't play with mods, but that's just a choice that I have made so far considering all the circumstances of my life at this time. How knows? I may load up POD me own self one of these days.

Awesome mod.

It clears tags after formation of Culture Union nations. It adds quite a lot of trade goods and factories.
It also adds a few more factions in Africa so you can get a foothold there earlier if you desire to get an earlier foothold.

Go for it !

To be honest, POD is way too good not to use it compared to vanilla HOD.
