I at most play inland nations so i never had to care about my navy, but now i need to so i can keep out sweden from invading me.

I know that when land tech goes up and i get new units all of my units switchs to the preferred unit, but i saw that ships stay the same but i can train new. I was wondering are if for say the carracks stats stay the same or change to the newer ships stats.

Base stats of built carracks do not update to caravel stats when you unlock a new ship type. You'll have to build new ones.

However, as you increase in naval tech, each new level may increase morale/fire/shock/etc bonus which are added to all your ships, built or unbuilt. The tech bonus is added to the base stats in the same way as is done for land units.

In other words, a carrack fielded by a 30 NT country will be far superior to a carrack fielded by a 5 NT country, but it will not hold a candle to a later ship model, even if the country controlling it has much lower NT.
