The price depends on if you include workstation, licenses, fees, and other things. There is more cost for companies than just the salary per employee.

Having the ship models be similar across races is a visual marker of how strong those ships are. If all models were radically different, it could get difficult to distinguish a corvette from a destroyer, etc. Unnecessary visuals should not compromise ease of gameplay.

What this game really needs is a ship designer in Galactic Civilizations III style. No matter how many individual ship styles there are, at some point they will start to look boring. Limited "slap a few different types of pre-selected pieces together and call it a ship" -type of designing doesnt really match the "enlarge and shape as you will, then slap in more parts" -type in GalCiv3. The devs are too busy making ship models for all the races? Well then make them yourself.

I for one am more than happy to pay for more ship skins to add further diversity to large games and think that whatever PDX spend on creating new skins they will easily make back.

What i would love to see even more though are some ship options that don't follow the existing corvette, destroyer, cruiser, battleship tree, i find it hard to believe that every single race in the galaxy would create these same ship types and fleet structure, we should see options for hive fleets for example which would consist of just carrier ships of different sizes that unleash swarms of fighters. I'm sure the dev team and community could easily come up with more ideas on this and i think it would add not only an extra layer of realism(sci-fi realism....) to the game but also an extra level of strategic/tactical depth and variety.

Any particular reason? Pretty much does not matter what colour you paint them. Historically it was only from the rifle era that militaries adopted subdued colours. There's no real reason spaceships should be any particular shade, since visual camouflage isn't going to be a factor. Likewise with Space Navy uniforms.
My issue with brightly coloured ships is I dislike the look of them. I would much rather watch two blobs of indistinguishable metallic-coloured ships shoot at each other than watch neon green ships fire at brown ships. Also, realistically, who is going to bother using (potentially) hundreds of liters of paint to cover a ship? Odds are it will get striped off by the various little bits of space-dust the ship encounters before anyone gets a chance to see it anyway.
So yeah, if coloured ships are a thing I just want the ability to switch it off and use basic metallic shades due to my own personal preferences in sci-fi. (imagine for a moment how awful bright pink star destroyers would look)

I agree but obviously the devs cannot create 100 different ships for the races, but what they could do is allow each race to have their ships colours match that of the flag. I hope that is something we can see added some time after release.

It would be neat if your ships had tallies of how many hostile vessels they destroyed in their career on the side of their ship. Then again I don't think we can zoom in that close to the ships.

Ok 'Absurd' might not of been the best word to use. I'm thinking more colours that would detract from the designs of the ships themselves. So for example no colours that are the same as the details on the ships so they don't lose their definition. Choosing a selection of colours that have the right tones so they look good on the ships eg. a bright red ship might obscure the details and not look realistic but a red that is more moderate enhances them.
Ah, yes. Fully agree there.

I wonder if a decal with the empire's flag/heraldry/logo would be possible?
