To give ship classes more variety, I would suggest using a similar system to XCOM2 where missions always have 2 words
For human names,
One is a list of actions/descriptions and the second is a list of objects
"Red Combat", "Dreaded Hero", "Dancing Monkey"
For alien names, some of the current lists could be used as inspiration and just divided to have a random (shorter) prefix or suffix to a list of words with longer names
