They only shoot the planes attack on them. The planes will prefer capital ships, not light cruisers.
Some can test to put AA on CA to trap planes, to see if it is efficiency as land AA before. But probably not!

This cruiser AA for test
- CA version to work behind screen line
- No armor to increase speed to dodge fire from heavy gun. Not sure if speed help in air attack.
Almost any heavy gun can pierce cruiser armor any way.

I would at least recommend putting on at least cruiser armor 1 if nothing to protect your fragile AA CA against DD in case you lose your screen. The speed lose can be made up by swap the engine 3 for engine 4.

Probably not worth to kill planes. I used old BB I with AA uprade to 25 (28 Included bonus), it shot down 5 naval bombers, but lost 23% health. The 5 bomber cost about 150 IC, the old BB full cost is 11500! The hundred naval bombers just choose one ship to attack each time!

I think it will be much better for AA if they have smaller air fleet attack bigger navy fleet.

Is everyone else using British Malaya's early light cruiser design to do anti-sub warfare? Before man the guns even early cruisers had a sub detection of 50 but with man tye guns all the majors had the sub detection nerfed down to just 1 or 2. Apparently, Paradox forgot to nerf Malaya's early cruisers so it has the old 50 points for sib detection instead of the new 1 point for detection.

The new meta is for all the allies to license production from Malaya to carry out your anti-sub detection role.

Hi, sorry to bump an old thread, I had a look but couldn't see was wondering peoples thoughts on the Cruiser Submarine, typically I use it as Japan to pump out Mine-Laying subs early for decent production (IIRC like 720 for 2.0 mining). However, I noticed you can put spotter planes on them, are they useful for spotting to augment the raiding fleets?

There are a few downsides to these namely the Cruiser Sub's low speed, but this is a fairly cheap way to get quite a lot of spotting for fairly low production, only 1070 for 47 spotting? Perhaps the additional spotting of Radar II on all subs might be more cost effective, I'm not too sure the details of how the spotting mechanics work. Thoughts?

I always put radar on a submarine and use it for patrol/spotting. It'll attack unescorted convoys as well if you set it to low risk engagements.

I use Cruiser subs for patrolling, usually in fleets of six with two seaplanes and the best radar available. Set for Never Engage, the enemy doesn't know they are in trouble until the Strike Fleet shows up. :D

They work extremely well IF there is no enemy air around, otherwise they get picked off pretty easily by enemy Navs. They're even pretty good at spotting enemy sub fleets, I have been tempted to set up a DD Strike Fleet with some cruiser sub patrols to nab U-boats (those pesky I-boats tend to operate under Japanese air ) though radar and Navs tend to be effective enough I have never had the need.
