Might have missed that in the diarys so far, but i have an Idea for Sea Battle.

I would love to see a ship damage system where lower "Health" of the ship means disadvantages. If possible even to the point where a torpedo Hit will always slow down and a Battleship hit will make the main armament less useable.

This would mean i could not rush too a isle after a Victory, but need to repair my fleet as well.
At least if they are damaged enough.
Making attacking much more problematic if the enemy controls the isles nearby.

Example is when US attacks Japanese Mainland without taking isles and win the battle while still taking a good amount damage they will have a big problem. Like if the Carriers all got hit by torpedos they have -40% speed (and trough 1 hit on the deck by a BB -20% Bomber that can fly) and now the Japanese Navy is getting all ships together that are nearby and can finish the already damaged US Navy. The US can hope they are away fast enough or even think to abandon the to slow ships. That will mean your decisions are more important now.

This would also mean you need to go step by step if you wont go the risky way. And also its really friendly to new players too, i mean....everyone schould now that a burning, nearly destroyed ship is not a good thing in a fight.

Good idea or really bad?

Agree that is good idea.
Maybe even divide ship health to three categories - weapon, engine ,command room. So when they receive critical shot, or just too many damage this part will be disabled or work with lower efficiency

Don't know if that is a good idea. What you suggest could mean that all damaged ships will be sunk becuase they have no chance to flee from the enemy.

You don't want to make it overly complex, but you could reduce the effectiveness of a ship according to its health, say its sea attack is reduced in proportion to its health etc (not sure how it would work with carriers), maybe also speed in which it can enter or leave the battlefield too. However, there is a potential issue with slowing ships down due to battle damage on the wider map, which is teaching the AI to detach ships that are slowing a fleet down...do instance, you wouldn't risk the entire fleet for a damaged destroyer, but you might for a carrier or battleship, It would also make it tricky for naval battles in MP, since you'll be removing damaged ships to save your more prized ships etc, it just makes a bit of a mircomanaging nightmare.

I'd definitely be a fan of adding damage, and an impact of damage. It was, in no small part, due to it's damage that Bismarck couldn't escape to a French port (although after it had got there, I suspect it may still have got plenty of unwanted attention).

Don't know if that is a good idea. What you suggest could mean that all damaged ships will be sunk becuase they have no chance to flee from the enemy.
No, really not. Its just more dangerous to operate in enemy territory.
So hunting down a slowed and defeated fleet is an good option in your territory, but you will think twice before hunting them to their.
Also you wont have second big fleets always nearby but fighting where the enemy has air support now means they could bomb you longer.
It will let you more likely to get step after step instead of a direct attack into the heart of the enemy.

But with the next quote that thing is not in the talk anymore .

Okay, thats a good point. I agree with the AI and MP point. While MP, if not played to fast, maybe is doable, (Trough a button for easy detach.) i see that the AI would fail at this point.

Then you said it already, the best way would be to reduce the effectivness. For a Carrier this could mean less planes can start i guess.
Then its only a good idea to attack with damaged ships when its 100% worth it.
I also think it schould just start to reduce the effecivness when under 80-85%.

I think in HOI3, the health of the ship was proportional to its combat efficiency.
