Ship Customization Question

After watching most of the Blorg Episodes I recently went back to the first episode, to view the race creation screen, again. While watching it i remember they pointed out, how they said they were talking about being able to customize the species ships colors. I was wondering whether or not we would be able to upon release or perhaps a later DLC?

We're probably way too close to release for them to add something that fundamental, but I wouldn't be surprised if they added it in a patch or DLC by the end of the year.
