I thought i would take the plunge and start my own "shields by" thread. I like the way other people have done the same thing and thought i should do the same. I dont profess to be a good shield or flag designer but i have a good grasp on the requirements to produce them.

It also seemed a good idea to do this because not many people actually check my site out. Anyway on with the current examples.

I find it helpful to put some extra space between images such as these and the edge of the flag before running them through the template; it keeps them from hitting the edge in the final image, which is visually distracting.

Someone who's more knowledgeable is sure to correct me any second now :) but I had thought that doubled tails were a feature of only German heraldry.
This doesn't seem to have been displaced; furthermore, you're leaking out the edges of flag's outline.

Whenever i try to do that it makesit even worse... what is the best "canvas" (not image) size for an image like that?

The image is, as yuou guessed, a lion taken from an earlier german blazon. We have a wolf done by havard, so this was merely a sneaky way of attempting the same job.

Forgot the displacement..., however the leakage is due to the flag problems i still have. I still havent perfected it yet so any pointers on dimensions and ways to do it would be gladly accepted.

I usually add a couple pixels to the top and bottom at a time (and enough on the sides so that the porportion stays at 3:2, else the template doesn't work), save it, run it through the template, and see what it looks like. If it's not enough, I reload the image and add some more.

The best way I've found to deal with this without resorting to touching it up by hand:
1. Change all pixels on the layer that aren't completely transparent to be completely opaque, without changing their color values. (There's probably an easier way, but I use an action that duplicates the layer and then merges it down ten eight times.)
2. Select the layer's transparency, and invert the selection (so all transparent pixels are selected).
3. Blur the image.
4. Repeat step 1.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 until you've got enough extra space around the edges.

(Step by step: make a new action in the action window, give it a name, click record; right click on your layer in the layer window, choose duplicate and OK; merge it down with ctrl-e; repeat a bunch of times; click on the stop button in the action window.)

That daily avatar change you do, btw... it's eerie. :)

Ah great... i will get cracking on it.

As for the avatar... i am still trying to find one that "fits". Ideally i'd like the raven one from the vinland scenario :( 3000 posts is like a mountain to climb.
