So im playing as a shia character and the holy war CB on sunnis confuse me, sometimes its available, sometimes is'nt. Is it a bug? If not could someone be so kind and explain the mechanics behind this?

Would that really be necessary? Take my word for it. In my Current game i can find 2 sunnis I can use the CB on, they're both child rulers. I just formed africa and was about to holy war the almoravids, checked the diplomacy screen and i had the CB, then waited a while to grow in strenght and when I decided it was time to attack the CB was gone..

does it have to do with the religion of the land vs the religion of the ruler?
for example, if it's all shia religious land but held by a sunni...or the opposite. I never really play muslims but i started up one recently (fatimid) to see what they were like and I'd sometimes be able to holy war, sometimes not

As far as I saw it, the Holy War CB wasn't available, when the target was in a Holy War against Christians.
