What's the quickest you've built a new ring? I had an amazing game but never got around to building a new ring because it took too long cause I didn't ramp up science fast enough. Next game I want to build a ring very quickly. I don't ever want to restore the shattered ring haha. But if I don't build a second ring fast that's pretty dumb, so I need to set a date to aim for.

Does restoring the Cybrex ring count?

My fastest Mega-Engineering in vanilla seems to always be Cybrex-related.

I think the earliest for me was starting contruction around 2330. My playstyle is deliberately non meta though (small mono species empire, avoid wars like the plague, only settle high hab worlds), so it usually takes me a combined ~20-25 years researching mega engineering and ringworlds. Add the 10 years to repair a megastructure to pick galactic wonders on top of that.

With the way I play, I'm not getting mega engineering before 2300 (the 20x usually gets me the tech very soon after). So the 2330s or 2340s is about when I can get a new Ring with SR start, though at that point I usually prioritize getting a matter decompressor and dyson sphere started.

Without shatterd ring or a ruined megastructure it's more like 2400. Mega engineering more towards 2350 plus the joy of building an entire megastructure from scratch to get galactic wonders.

As a side note, I still find it weird that the timed 0.1 multiplier uses 2300 as a fixed year, rather than the mid game start date.

damn I forgot that the shattered ring only increases droprate after repair, and I was planning on not repairing it :(

i don't want a matter decompressor because my home ring segment filled with 5 urban districts (for the slots after tech opens up enough) and the rest mining districts produces 900 minerals a month. i would rather just keep the whole ring for scrap mining and open a brand new ring, hence this thread to see if it's a viable strat

oof 2400 tells me it's probably highly not viable for me to do this. but just for fun maybe i will take very strong off of my industrious cyborg mining drills pops and add engineering trait for today's attempt? maybe if i launch enough science habs early enough. tbh i think the only non-ring colonies i need are science habs till the second ring

Tbh i feel like the main problem there would be that you need a completed megastructure before picking the AP, since you’re not planning on reparing any.
Getting the tech is one thing (with good beligning, technocracy to increase chance etc.) i’ve seen people get it before 2250; but my best is 2260ish.
But the mega on top of that, which imply rolling another tech, then research it, taking Master Builder (obviously, seeing what you’re planning), construct it, having the other AP ready, research Ring World itself, the constructing it?
Without a ruined mega on top of your ring i don’t think it’s realistic before 2300 in the best scenario; but i guess better player than me could do it

I think you misunderstood, the shattered ring does give the bonus weight to the tech. But as Sylmyn said, the ascension perk requires you to have repaired or fully constructed a megastructure. Repairing a single segment would be enough, the other way would take base 20-35 years in construction time depending on structure, plus the time it takes to roll and research the tech for it.

I see. You don't have to repair the segments, but repairing one of them would certainly speed things up. It's an option, if you don't have another ruined structure to repair and getting another megastructure up and running takes to long.

To reiterate, I'm playing very much suboptimally, and the 2400 is for non shattered ring games. It's definetely possible to get there faster. I only build a handful of habitats for science, trade and strategic resources on top of my starting ring segments. More research habitats, stealing/conquering other empires pops, a couple of subjects to pay you research, ethics, civics, traits, etc. would certainly help. I'm not the right person to ask about min maxing though. I guess early 2300s would be doable, while still allowing for build flexibility.
