So I see a lot of people stumbling over themselves with the economy, I see a lot of people running into performance bugs, I see a lot of people having a pretty bad time in one way or another.

But I wanted to share a game I'm in progress with where Stellaris is working better then I've seen it yet.

So I am playing a Rogue Servitor Empire. Known as the Orb Servitors, they are custom made, luxurious robots. Which really made the whole pop growth and expansion thing a chore let me tell you.

But the game proceeded to unfold like a wonderful and engaging sci-fi space opera empire simulator in a way that stellaris has only hinted at before mechanically.

To start with I, playing the good Rogue Servitor decided to give my bio-trophies migration freedoms and abundant food so they could reproduce as much as they like while I worked to keep everything maintained.

This 'worked' for a time but it was a constant struggle to keep everything from collapsing, resources had to constantly be swapped with the market to make up for inefficiencies and growth, starvation began to set in several times.

We were friendly robots though and set out to explore and integrate whatever wonderful organics we could find. We found amazing sentient fungus! We found a poor orphan leviathan and took her in and named her bubbles! We however also immediately found a very war like and spiritual organic empire of honorbound warriors.

Our economic and military might could not subdue them. So we took a gentler policy.

To our immediate border we found a race of religeous fanatic purifiers, and it was troubling.

But beyond the fanatic purifiers were some nice people who really appreciated that we were robotic servitors meant to take care of organics (although they complained about us lacking something called a soul).

We built a defensive coalition with our neighboors to protect organic life againt the fanatic spiritualists at our doorstep. the organic empires managed to overcome their own distrust for us simple machines. We went out into the galaxy and found another empire who hated us for no good reason. In the end we were pinned in, but we had many worlds to colonize available to us although we could not fill them well.

Eventually the fanatics went to war with us, and we fought them with our allies to a stand still. But this deepened our bond with our two friends and they too were changed by the experience. Our economy was in shambles, our ability to sustain our charges trained to the breaking. We were forced to enact migration and population restrictions on our biotrophies and relocate them to more idealized planets.

With that crisis dealt with we began slowly retooling our military fleet, it was an uneasy pact we had with the two organic empires, they could only stand us because we were fighting a common enemy. But it was enough to start research agreements and begin to build mutual trust and understanding.

The second war of containment began after that and in the ensuing conflict we claimed one of the fanatic's worlds and proceeded to take care of their population, some of one of our allies' people were also on that world and we took care of them as well.

It was shortly after this war that having seen the ugliness of xenophobia our allies reformed their government on principles of xenophilia and taking care of all beings.

We were a trio of true friends.

But it was a big galaxy and the Orb servitors needed to take care of so many more organics, so we began to reach out to the other empires for federation. Our long standing allies seemed unwilling to ever deepen our bonds further. So we let them be.

We chose to try and start the seed of a new federation with some nice tree folk nearby in hopes they would support us in unifying the galaxy so that all organics could be properly taken care of.

However immediately after ratifying our federation our long standing allies broke with us, they hated the tree people though we did not at the time know why.

Then the largest empire and neighbor of us who hated us declared war on our newly born federation.

The war seemed like it would be a close thing but then they descended in force and our systems fell, we had to command bubbles the leviathian to retreat and we pulled back our forces shattered and unable to face them. They broke our starbase defenses and proceeded to bombard our science world.

It seemed like it would be the end for the Orb Servitors.

But like angels a species of peacock mercenaries contacted us in our hour of need, they offered us their services and with their help we were able to evict the invaders and push them back. Securing our starbases against future incursion.

Our economy was of course always teetering on the brink, requiring constant care and adjustments to ensure growth and supply for our biotrophies. But it was at that point that we properly developed the ability to construct better machines and deploy them. Our resource production climbed and soon we were right again. Our closest and first allies were strained in their relations with us and in checking the records we learned why.

Our current federation partner had been enacting wars of doctrine against them for a century. We had not KNOWN, we broke the ill beget federation and beseeched our allies for forgiveness.

They had mercy in their hearts and took to protecting and ensuring our independence as we learned from the errors of our ways. We turned to them for cues in the dealing with other organics and declared our meager forces and rivalry against their enemies.

And one day we had built up our fleets to be just sufficient and balanced our economy just enough that they saw we were ready and a true and proper federation was declared!

Our honor bound neighbors were not immediately moved to join and soon became embroiled in a war with our former federation partner. So we engaged them in a great harassing war to aide our friends as their own fleets were focused on maintaining order and stability against pirates (seriously that poor empire is CONSTANTLY patroling its space to try and squash rebellions and pirates, it is a mess).

After the democratic tree folk had their deprivations delayed by our fleets and the aide of bubbles our ally was moved by our efforts and he too joined the federation in full.

In that moment we were united in truth, The Orb servitors

And then Bubbles got even bigger and became one of my most powerful fleets on her own!

It's been some time since then, the Orb Servitors have researched every single tradition in full and are well on their way now in developing the dozen or so worlds in their space.

Our federation is the most potent force in the galaxy besides the fallen empires.

And the khan just showed up on the other end of the galaxy.

All of the decisions and actions that occurred were done for mechanical reasons, strategy, tactics, economics, politics and diplomacy (crude and limited as it is) even.

This is a game where as far as I'm concerned Stellaris is working as Intended delivering that great experience of a star empire and aliens and I just wanted to share that.

There were dozens of little things going on as well, decisions and actions, My empire has the choice to collect pops instead of murdering them in planetary bombardment. Which is great fun!

Yeah Le guinn has got a bunch of frustrating bugs for some play-styles/hardware specs and the learning curve is a LOT steeper. But there is a lot of times in this game that in previous versions of stellaris I would have been screwed with no options or choices that could solve a problem. Or just waiting for things to tick over.

I don't think I felt the need to switch over to 'fastest' speed in this game for more then half a minute total. I've been having to deal with interesting and challenging choices and problems the entire time.

Out of almost two days of playing.

So yeah, the game is good under some conditions and doing exactly what it is supposed to. Now we just need to tighten up some of those bugs ruining the fun for other people and get some decent diplomacy in there.
