Seeing as the Rome forum is suffering from a lack of activity, I thought I'd start this thread. This is where you can share your EU Rome stories, empires, strange goings on in your game or something which you think is, simply, just cool, no matter how insignificant you think it may be. :) We need to start inspiring each other to keep playing this excellent game! Anyway, to kick things off, I thought I'd share my current empire with you. It may not be great compared to some of your achievements, but this is the largest nation I've managed to forge:

rome_map_18.jpg

It's currently 618 AUC and I'm playing as Macedonia (Imperium). My current ruler is Emperor Ptolemy and was declared a God amongst men, upon his ascent to the throne. His position is seen with such honour that other members of the Ptolemy family are all vying to fill the Emperor's shoes. Emperor Ptolemy's 14 year old son was murdered by his Uncle. Years later, the Uncle was murdered by his brother (and brother to the Emperor). Who knows how many more Ptolemy's will die before I find my true successor.

I plan to finish colonising the rest of Germania Magna and then start colonising the rest of Britannia. I'm using my power over Catuvellauni (Suzerain state) to build their civ value to 50% before I crush them.

Nice.
I don't have any screenshots, but I was playing as Athens in Lofmod 1.6, and I was doing pretty well. I had conquerede all of Greece, Anatolia, Sicily, and most of Britain. This was only halfway through the game, so I could have done more, but I got a new desktop and my dad deleted all of my files for EU:R. :(

So, I just had a very bizarre occurence. My Emperor died and his young son took the throne. Shortly after becoming Emperor, he seduced his own 18 year old sister. A year later they had a child...

The Emperor is 3 years old!

Now he has a daughter, who is also his sister and is only 3 years younger than himself. Very, very odd. Game bug? Possibly. Interesting (in-game only! Obviously)? Very!

EDIT: Hmmm, my ruler is only 6 years old and is the proud father of 3 children. Bit too weird, even for a game!

Well, my ruler just turned 16. He has 5 illegitimate children by his sister. Her husband is her Uncle. Awkwarrrrrddddd! At least we're keeping the bloodline pure... and by pure, I mean 6 fingers on each hand.

I would post a screenshot, but PrtScrn doesn't seem to work with Windows 7. Anyone know how to take screenshots in Rome with Windows 7?

Ok, got some screenshots. I've posted 2 images just to show that he did indeed father children as an adolescent...

636 AVC. The mother of the children is the girl in his friend list.

Emperor1.jpg

638 AVC. Now married, the Emperor has 5 children by his "mistress". The rival you can see is the husband of the children's mother (Emperor's sister). "The Husband Is Not Amused" indeed!

That's one messed up family tree. It's not entirely unexpected for the Ptolemies, I guess...

And damn, that map looks crazy. Talk about Battle of the Blobs!

I haven't been playing the game much (real life has gotten in the way), but when my current Rome game advances a bit I might post some pics and some interesting stories.

Here's my map almost 20 years of from the first post.

rome_map_24.jpg

And damn, that map looks crazy. Talk about Battle of the Blobs!

This is one of the things that lets EU Rome down. The map needs to allow new nations to form and then give them a chance to grow. Barbarian provinces need the ability to become an active nation. Every game I've ever played ends with the only survivors being the "Big 5" (Rome, Egypt, Macedonia, Carthage and the Seleucid Empire) in a global stand-off.

That's one messed up family tree. It's not entirely unexpected for the Ptolemies, I guess...

There are 71 members of the Ptolemy family in the world and 53 of them live in Macedonia. Almost every member of my court is related to or linked to the Ptolemies in some way.

I haven't been playing the game much (real life has gotten in the way), but when my current Rome game advances a bit I might post some pics and some interesting stories.

Excellent! :)

Sorry, no screens, just had a super fun game as Catuvellauni.

My first ruler was a real civilizer, plus a good warrior, so he brought lots of slaves to my single province making it rich, but at 49% civilization, a horde of 40 barbarians came from the north and wasted all his effort, and brought my civilization to 29% and killed of my poor ruler and he was still young at the time.

At this point I wanted to quit playing but I kept going, and I was rewarded, somehow down the years, my first rulers queen, became ruler. And she was a 10 warrior, soon I had beaten all the barbarians in all of Britain ad Ireland, plus driven my civil ratio to 50, colonized all of southern Britain and conquered Siluri and vassalized the picts. I had some lovely RP moments there imagining her taking vengeance on the Irish.

I was again rich and powerful, but on the continent Rome had beaten all of gaul, and massed it's armies preparing to take my island. I made a mistake of colonizing the southeastern most province of Britain thus giving us a border and they declared war.
With more than 40000 men they invaded from the south, at the time my Valkyrie queen was on a pacifying mission in Ireland again, aged 60 something no less, and the command was given to another warrior lady, but sadly with my collected defense forces, some 13000 men was not enough for the legions. My army was annihilated and doom descended.

My queen made it back to Britain and held the province south of the picts, with a loyal and elite band of 8000 men, while all of my other land fell to the Romans. Soon they started to send peace offers, but I refused them all.

They tried several times to fight me out of my last province, but my queen was like an immortal, stood up against everything, until, after sending some lowlife roman general and his 20000 men south after another victory they cowardly landed another army with 30000 men in my province, engaging my already exhausted army and finally beat me. My queen died in exile in Ireland and I was annexed,
I think, cause I stopped playing there. best game so far.

Sounds cool, Hanzo! Very Boudica-esque. It's a shame you couldn't have met them with your main army, as they crossed the English Channel. The terrain and crossing penalty would've caused the Romans massive damage.

I always find that the best games of EU Rome are the roleplayed ones. If I just set out to "win" the game, I find it quite tedious. But if I focus on certain characters and try to get into their mindsets, it gives a little more meaning to my decisions as a ruler.

That lil' Ptolemy kid must be a hell of a seducer if his Charisma is 9. Just like his old man's. Must be one helluva freak of nature to be biologically fit to procreate at that age. too.

Well, his dad was the first Emperor of Macedonia and was declared as a God shortly after his coronation. Being the ruler of the most powerful country in the world and the son of a God may sway some people! :)
