Ok, so we have plenty of time before release and a new thread (one more in a million, I guess) won't make any harm.

My worst fear regarding HOI4:

Being the game over (basically) over after 1942 (or, at least, very early) as it happens in HOI 3. After that date, playing Germany, for example, was not much fun for many players as one was administrating the victory more than anything else. The game was basically won and eating more chunks of the USSR, for example, was more of a beauracratic procedure rather han a strategically challenging one.

If I dare a suggestion for this case, I wouldn't mind going out of the strictly historical route. Example: Germany clearly loosing its war with the USSR, succeds in an early cease fire with the Allies. Even better, early chances of allies declaring early war to USSR. There are, of course, many other solutions that are not mutually exclusive.

Anyway please write your fears and suggestions.

In HOI3, factions fought to the bitter end. I hope that doesn't repeat itself. There are plenty of times peace between factions should be a possibility before total occupation by the enemy.

Well, if you take both England and Russia by 1942, what IS realistically supposed to threaten you as Germany ? The only power left on the planet who would register as more than a speed bump is on the other side of the Atlantic.

As for my worst fear, its simply that the game is not fun to play, or that it does not have any longevity to it. But i expect that fear to be unfounded, it looks very nice from the live shots we have gotten (World War Wedensday in particular).. speaking of which, its Wedensday.. Johan, its already 8 AM, why arn't you playing :D

That after all this waiting, after all the delays, after all the promises, after all the revisions to game mechanics, we still get a minimally fun steaming pile of buggy mess a'la HOI3 launch or worse...the cursed SOTS II <spits>. That's my greatest fear.

Very very VERY slim chance of happening I'd say with the direction Paradox has gone over the past few years, but still remotely in the realm of possibility.

(Edit: Yes, I know SOTS II was only published and not developed by Paradox...)

I'd say thats my biggest 'fear'
you can actually ask for peace, before you are beaten. This will cause an peace conference, in which you as the loser need to accept the demands of the other side. If you dont, the war will keep going and if they defeat you, you have nothing to say in the peace conference.

My worst problem with ALL PI games is that AI doesn`t know how to "lose". Once you land a strong punch, AI tend to simply collapse. You don`t see things like Russia recovenring from blows and striking back. Yes, in HOI3 Eastern Front was artificially set up so it would tend to flip, but it required a craptonne of special balancing like German manpower being artificially pumped in by early decisions so that it could be low enough to actually dry up rapidly in 1941-1942, and SU getting a bunch of buffs.

AI in PI games simply doesn`t know how to defend, consolidate, rebuild, hold the line and win eventually. I would hope they improve that in HOI4, as it has quite a few mechanics that are supposed to help you defend your land, like troops instant deployment without training.

My biggest fear is that while micro intensitivity is lowered microing might become less of a viable strategy, with all the bonus to battleplans, will there ever be any reason to micro divisions?

Weird, arbitrary and lazy restrictions, like the ones present all over Victoria 2. :rolleyes:

Wanna rename troops? Nah.
Wanna rename ships? Nah.
Wanna move your precious capital, which happened all the time in history (and especially during wars)? Certainly not.
Wanna conquer individual territories instead of entire states? Nah mate, even though we gave you such arbitrary borders and such a thing already at the start of the game. We can do it, you cannot! Teh lulz!!!!!11!!!!
Wanna rename provinces other than Eurocentric names we have pre-decided for you? Wanna change Vladivostok back to Haishenwai after you conquered it back from Russia? Nah, not possible.
Wanna cut some of those arbitrary restrictions away? Nah ne ne nah nah.
Wanna make mods that allow you to do these things if we officially don't add them? Sorry, we will hardcode them.
Why? Because we are too lazy to develop the game to allow that much customization. We don't want to even develop the game to that extent. Gib teh money plox. Lolololol!!!!!111!!!

These are my only 'fears'.

That after all this waiting, after all the delays, after all the promises, after all the revisions to game mechanics, we still get a minimally fun steaming pile of buggy mess a'la HOI3 launch or worse...the cursed SOTS II <spits>. That's my greatest fear.

In SotS2, the developer ran out of money for development and so they closed their eyes and hit the big red "Ship It" button. The equivalent for HoI4 would be if Paradox had made a decision in August 2014 that they had to ship by November 2014. Thankfully Paradox is in the position that they can hold off on the release when things don't work the way they'd planned.
