I think they've allready given us a hint.

Last year Paradox had a thread/poll about what time-period to make a future game based on the EU-engine upon. And IIRC the crusades (900-1400) the post Napoleon era (1820-1914) and the the Roman empire era (500 BC-500) was the most popular ideas.

So I'm guessing that the games will cover one or two of these periods, which IMO all would make a great game. But I could be wrong. Maybe it will be a dark ages-game, maybe a WW2-game or maybe even a game covering 100.000 BC to 40.000 BC featuring the struggle for world domination between the Neanderthals and the Cro Magnons.:D One can only speculate....

I'm quite happy with Paradox getting a head start, before we molest them with our suggestions (as good as they may be). I'm anyway convinced that "Crusades" will be one of them. I glad however that Paradox has ruled out a scifi/fantasy game. Very good move! I'll be happy with any period chosen, if done well.

Further, it's not bad to focus on "Legion" for the time being (and comparing it to Pax Romana). Also, I have yet to buy the "expansion pack" EU2, as it is not yet released in Germany. Have to see if the claims of it being such a far better game can be upheld once setting my own eyes on it.

Applying the EU engine to the ninety years from Napoleon to WW1 would have a rather abrupt feel to it - sort of expecting a test match and getting a one dayer.

If you wanted to end with WW1, you'd better placed starting around 1700 or possibly slightly earlier (pick up Dutch English wars). That way you start just with a global view and you tweak the engine for empire clashes, balance of power politics and colonial revolts.

I agree that any game of teh Middle Ages couldn't encompass more than Europe and ME. However, we are even more into the world of clan and dynastic politics.

in the same post he suggested that maybe it could be expanded through WWII, which is why I said 1945... all the same, the most logical seems to be the crusades.

I would be happy with a game stretching from 1000 AD to 1820 or 1300 to 1820 as long as the amount of provinces was increased to 2 or 3 times the current amount.

That is just too long of a time period. As it is now there are plenty of gripes about things not happening late in the game (see the nothing happening after 1750 thread). The further you stretch it the more skewed from history it can become. Maybe you are not so concerned about the history (which is o.k.) but I like the game because it has so much history and follows it nicely for a while.
