EU3: Shame Legions coming out!!!

I would have loved to have seen an "EU3 Ancient world" based on the rise of civilizations in the Med , northern europe and middle east, just imagine playing Sparta, Persia, Gauls or Carthage, even the mighty Roman Empire. I think the EU system would have worked so well!!

Legion sounds ok but it lacks the scale of EU and you cant beat EU for game-play. The mutli-player in Ancient world would be glorious!! (legion has no M-Player option)

Do you think if we shout loud enough, Paradox will listen?

Well Paradox!!!!!!!

EU3 ANCIENT WORLD.....its got a ring to it.

I too want EU3 but ancient Europa Universalis would feel so.. unnatural. The whole thing with EU is to catch the middle ages spirit. All the music and so. And, what CAN be improved in EU3 if it shall be played in the middle-ages? Ancient world could be great, but the things that attracted me to EU were things that you only could do in the middle-ages.

Perhaps!!!!

It could extend into the dark ages, even at a push early middle ages!!!!!. But europe and middle east only, to ensure detailed maps.

Surely you dont want EU to just keep churning out variations on the same theme, lets have something different!!!!

The Ancient world lends itself to epic struggles of emerging empires and civilizations.........

Legion is a excellent game and I think that it is unfair to compare it to EU as they are 2 completely different games.

Our line-up looks like this for the upcoming games:

1. Legion
2. TBA title based on EU Engine.
3. TBA title based on EU engine.

2 and 3 will be announced before summer and I have a hard time believing that you will not be satisfied with the themes we've chosen.

My comments about legion were merely highlighting my worry that Paradox may not consider producing a Roman based game so as not to compete with Slitherine games!!!!

But if as you say they are different games entirely, i feel reassured that "EU3 Ancient world " could be a possiblity.

go on Patric give a clue: TBA

Hmmm...seems like the second and third game are going to be the same.;) But the nice thing is that in the college catalog there are plenty of courses on the subject - so I guess I will learn a lot!

What? College, Europa Universalis? I don't see what you're trying to say .

TBA= "to be announced" I believe

My money is on "Crusades" as the first EU engine title. The era lends itself best to the engine.

As for Ancient/Roma Universalis, I don't see any need for such a title. For one Slitherine/Paradox are working on Roman-era "Legion" (which of course is quite different from EU style games), and then there's Antikgames' Pax Romana, which bears quite a few similarities to Europa Universalis.

However, it expands the EU style grand strategic game by a whole model of political intrigue. Indeed, I couldn't have imagined a faithful game set in antiquity without bringing the internal frictions of the Roman Republic to the game. Check out the new site: www.pax-romana.com (lots of info, screenshots and forum). They're also doing a whole lot of other "EU style" games.

As for the second EU style title, I have heard rumors of a WWII game, but that seems not feasible. Rather a long 19th century simulation, "Mighty Empires".

I hoping for a WWII game and a Crusades or Roman game.

But a quick question: why does Paradox not annouce it now? After all doesn't that give news of the game more time to get around? More time for magazines and such to write previews?

As interested as I am about the new games, I hope they don't announce them until things are well on their way. They have enough to do reading all of the stuff we post here and fixing EU II. Just think about the big posting explosion when Legion was announced. They probably want to get Legion out the door and EU II finished before having to listen to us post our ravings about how this or that should work in the new games.

Yes, TBA is what you see in a lot of small college catalogs (although it usually is not the course it is the instructor).

The have business interests to protect. They do need to sleep once in a while as well. I am sure we will hear about it when they are ready to release the titles of these games, and I will be first in line to BETA test them.... as for Legion, as a BETA tester- the game shouldn't disappoint you in its playing qualities or scope... :)

But look at how much grief Paradox got for announcing features like "spies" for EU2 that were never implemented.

If you went through that why would you ever pre-announce anything?

BarristerBoy

p.s. I'm certainly not sad that Legion is coming out - not when I have a beta version sitting on my computer at home!

................!

And they have to be sure enough of the progress that they can give a guess as to when it will be released because if they are off by too much then we soundly curse them and beg them alternately until the game arrives and we forget all that stuff.

You have us there... We thought that it would save us both time and money to release the same game twice :) No, that isn't true really... We will announce them when we feel ready to do so.
