Why Poland :(
Sorry! They stand in the way of my conquest (looks around to see if Chief Ragusa's watching) of Germany! I don't know what they want with those lands anyway. :D

Actually, if you're interested in Poland, you should read my AAR (linked at the bottom of my signature) Fire Warms the Northern Lands -- lots of storylines in there sympathetic to Poland, including about 3-4 major characters!

Saunters by, whistling innocently.

Poland cutting up Prussia has a certain sense of irony. Milan just has to conquer Germany. There's just some folks whom you just have to conquer.

Prussia was Polish vassal for a long time and part of it belonged directly to Poland, so I fail to see the irony.

Nice work in Gibralter and especially colonizing the Cape. The added benefit there...there's gold in them there hills to the north. Go and seek, young man, and you shall find great untold riches...well, I guess not "untold" since I just told you. ;)

That wasn't the biggest humiliation for Teutons it was long after that when they were obligated to cede Royal Prussia (Danzig and Warmia) into Polish Kingdom. And it was half century after 1410.

By the way I LOVE this AAR. Hope U will be able sonner or later form Italy.

I'm using the Kingdom of Prussia as from 1701 not the territory of the Teutonic Knights. The Hohernzollern entity that was later to become the German Empire.

The Poles defeated the Teutonic Knights at Tannenberg, not the Prussians. In finding things ironic, I'm not limiting myself to things that happened early in this time period.
I feel sure that Milan will be at war with the Poles again and again until the Poles have been driven from Germany.

A war with Portugal would include war with Castille and England. Hope the Milanese fleet is up to it.

Another nice update filled with a lot of nice new cores and colonies. Seems your empire is getting stronger and stronger and more united by the day that is good news. A new boundary insult with Castile. Could be interesting, perhaps it is time to kill them once and for all and make them your vassals ;)

Ah, so you are talking about Brandenburg. BTW Duchy of Prussia was state ruled by branch of Hohenzollerns. And what Ordensstaat was if not Prussia? It was in Prussia, people living there were called Prussians. So maybe it was Sweden and not Prussia. And last grandmaster who ruled Ordensstaat was also first duke of Prussia.

At the head of the year 1563, Milan dominated the western Mediterranean, northern Africa, and southern Europe, in general. Most recently, the Great Powers had to consider Milan a growing power in Germany, too.

Milan had been a bad boy... But no one was quite sure what to do about it... just yet.

Europe1563.jpg

In 1563 we decided to invest, again, in infrastructure, though more conservatively than the year before. A fort will be built in Meissen (level 2), further entrenching us in Germany.

We’re building two more warships, sending a small fleet abroad to protect Cuba, and building a constable in Schwyz (for income purposes), to go with the one we just completed in Bremen.

We’re dispatching a colonist to Santana, where our gold mines of Brazil are. Otherwise, we’ll continue to battle inflation and try to stay at peace while increasing our technological prowess.

MauricianInf.jpg

Nearer to the end of that year, our Land Tech advances, and we're happy to see that we can move beyond Landsknechten infantry to Maurician Infantry! This is actually quite an improvement over what we're used to. This will even any odds not already evened by brute, if blunt, force.

Exp1564.jpg

Our enemies (Poland?) had been building some temples, which we gladly make our own on their dime. Otherwise, concentration these days is primarily on economic expansion, and protecting our overseas colonies.

And then it happens... You knew it was coming.

It's no badboy war -- or a poor one, if that -- but sheer, frustratingly familiar revanchism!

PortWar.jpg

The English Navy has a reputation, but hopefully won't make its presence fully felt. Frankly, as far as Castille and Portugal had fallen over the decades, I wasn't sure if I would be concerned at all.

At least... not until the second week, or so, of combat... :D

Okay, it’s at this point that I followed your advice and updated to v. 1.03 .

Actually, that's not true. I attempted to update to 1.03. What actually happened is a matter of conjecture.

I pushed the button and followed all the steps for an automatic upgrade, and... Well, nothing happened! It still read 1.01 -- even still had the same checksum!

I must say, it was quite a while before I realized that it wasn't some mistake and I really hadn't converted versions. I'll have to follow up one of these days when I'm willing to spend a few minutes upgrading and not playing, and do an install from scratch.

We'll see... Maybe even tonight!

At last, a chance to consolidate gains in southern Spain. Iberia will be speaking the language of Italia once again! I think the time for the Moors is fast approaching an end.

Have fun with this war! ;)

This war will be interesting, because it also has colonial aspect since now both you and Portugal are colonial empires. Maybe this offers you good opportunity to expand in Brazil.

Oh I think you can expect large stacks of enemy lead by killer kings and the English navy will play havoc with your colonial trade - who knows the ai might be better it than it was in Fire Warms.

The Prus were a pagan slavic people whose enlightenment and religious salvation were placed in the tender hands of the German Teutonic Knights. The last (northern)grandmaster was indeed a Hohernzollern who became a Lutheran and secularised the Knights' possessions as Duke of Prussia. The Great Elector declared himself as King in Prussia and the Emperor conceded the title King of Prussia to keep Prussia on the side of the allies againt the French and not join the war against Sweden. I thought it should have been obvious from the fact I used the Kingdom of Prussia that I was referring to the Electorate of Brandenberg and Prussia and not the remnant of the Teutonic Order.

If it's complacency, being shaken awake is good on occasion.
If it's decadence, well... :p
