At the head of the year 1563, Milan dominated the western Mediterranean, northern Africa, and southern Europe, in general. Most recently, the Great Powers had to consider Milan a growing power in Germany, too.
Milan had been a bad boy... But no one was quite sure what to do about it... just yet.
In 1563 we decided to invest, again, in infrastructure, though more conservatively than the year before. A fort will be built in Meissen (level 2), further entrenching us in Germany.
We’re building two more warships, sending a small fleet abroad to protect Cuba, and building a constable in Schwyz (for income purposes), to go with the one we just completed in Bremen.
We’re dispatching a colonist to Santana, where our gold mines of Brazil are. Otherwise, we’ll continue to battle inflation and try to stay at peace while increasing our technological prowess.
Nearer to the end of that year, our Land Tech advances, and we're happy to see that we can move beyond Landsknechten infantry to Maurician Infantry! This is actually quite an improvement over what we're used to. This will even any odds not already evened by brute, if blunt, force.
Our enemies (Poland?) had been building some temples, which we gladly make our own on their dime. Otherwise, concentration these days is primarily on economic expansion, and protecting our overseas colonies.
And then it happens... You knew it was coming.
It's no badboy war -- or a poor one, if that -- but sheer, frustratingly familiar revanchism!
The English Navy has a reputation, but hopefully won't make its presence fully felt. Frankly, as far as Castille and Portugal had fallen over the decades, I wasn't sure if I would be concerned at all.
At least... not until the second week, or so, of combat...
Okay, it’s at this point that I followed your advice and updated to v. 1.03 .
Actually, that's not true. I
attempted to update to 1.03. What actually happened is a matter of conjecture.
I pushed the button and followed all the steps for an automatic upgrade, and... Well, nothing happened! It still read 1.01 -- even still had the same checksum!
I must say, it was quite a while before I realized that it wasn't some mistake and I really hadn't converted versions. I'll have to follow up one of these days when I'm willing to spend a few minutes upgrading and not playing, and do an install from scratch.
We'll see... Maybe even tonight!
