Let's just say that you've got quite the muscle and the Poles were aware of the fact, and of the fact they had a few other problems to deal with. Wow, Milan's actually going to get off our backs just for two provinces and leave us the possibility to keep defending ourselves against others? Deal!!! :p

Nice peace deal. In cases like this I'm in favour of quick limited war and it turned out to be a good tactics. Now you can concentrate to more important things.

So the Poles accepted a tentative peace offer. The ai can make inspired choices, after all.

You could do with an equally quick war against Burgundy to bring Bremen out of its long isolation. Followed by Bavaria deciding to become part of Milan. What do you mean, you don't want men who wear silly shorts as part of Milan?

A liitle bit of Italy in the heart of old Alemanni territory - Augustus would be proud! :D [and wouldn't be demanding the return of his Legions!]

My two-cents on the war-mongery issue: Just because you didn't "declare" war, doesn't mean you didn't create the condition(s) for war. Milan's aggressive actions inspired decalarations against her (in many of the instances you cited). Truly, Otto von Bismarck would be green with envy; but it is war-mongery none the less.

Lüneburg through peaceful or not so peaceful means would be a good strategy giving you one larger territory instead of 2 smaller ones.

Good you're restrained from using exploits and more realistic in gaining territory. Makes this AAR all the more interesting.

Yes, one must assume Poland saw any further war nonproductive and thus accepted. Now if you could just connect those territories with Bremen...

Renns, as I read your AAR I am often remided that those who wish for peace, must prepare for war!
Indeed, so!

GavinVaxx said:
SO any future plans for your empire...
Anyhow I must say this was so great Im going to upgrade my computer just to play this game...
Excellent news, Gavin!!! I hope you will get the Collector's Edition -- it not only has my Strategy Guide in it, but also a magnificent music CD and other bells and whistles. It also gives you access to the CE-Only section of the EU III forum, which is where most of the action and chatter happens regarding the game.

As for my plans... I'm contemplating a crusade, as soon as my back is clear! :D

Chief Ragusa said:
What was shocking wasthe fact that you have been at peace more than you've been at war. Maybe it just feels as though you''re always at war..
Yeah - I feel the same way! But I was just as shocked when I looked back and saw that.

germanpeon said:
I noticed that the Poland in your game formed a somewhat accurate modern Poland-shaped blob, other than their German possessions. In my games they are always a long province wide string with some cut off provinces here and there.
I've certainly seen that too, in other games. They are often drawn deep into Russia and Hungary. I think Brandenburg's early aggressive (suicidal!) posture drew them west in my game, and then Mecklenburg and Denmark picked up the role.

stnylan said:
No, quite a high wastage in the general staff. What's your tradition like to recruit new ones?
Definitely got some more guys coming. Tradition has been up around 20% or higher, so these new ones should be some good ones.

GhostWriter said:
you seem to have a knack for losing Generals during war...

oh, did those Generals happen to have a French chef ? ? Castilian ? ?
lol I know enough Italians to know that no self-respecting Italian would have a French (or other!) chef! :D Besides, it's well known that no one from any other empire could be trusted, as they all hate us. Truly!

Olaus Petrus said:
Wise move. No need to allow AI killing your troops in a stupid assault.
I can't stand those situations! Most times I need the victory as much as they do. This time I had the freedom to choose. Don't worry -- I get my revenge on them later! ;)

VILenin said:
Alright Renss, I'll concede that you are NOT a warmongering nation but just happen to be quite good at fighting wars and have only incidentally amassed a large empire of conquest. If accusing you of belligerance goaded you into creating an index, however, then it was worth it. I suspect posterity shall thank me.
lol Indeed! I enjoyed getting that index done. It will help me keep track of stuff I just can't remember, too. Thanks!

Storey said:
Since you're already at war you might as well get as much as you can and Ruppin isn't enough! Joe
Chief Ragusa said:
You'll want more than Ruppin to recompense for your trouble in supporting the Austrians - not that those warmongers will receive any provinces.
As you can see, I was reading your minds!

Snake IV said:
Aww, come on. Take on someone in your own size for once. But before you do that, why isn't Austria white yet?
Austria will eventually become the inspiration for a popular American restaurant -- White Spot. ;)

Cores1561.jpg

Glory be! New cores in Spain and Italy.

Income1560.jpg

I must say the fluctuations in census and monthly tax income are probably due to war tax issues, more than anything -- and other general economic indicators which it's harder to track.

Trade income was way up, and the others generally steadily increased. But trade income would not remain as high as it was, as my bonus melted away...

LossMercs.jpg

By February of '62 we’d lost every single merchant. Our merchant empire was dormant, again, because we couldn’t compete with the likes of Trier and Vijaywhosehisking.

Hmm... I think it might be time to expand that gold-bearing province in south America. :D

SantanaExpands.jpg

The successful conversion of Gibraltar is another big feather in our caps -- possible only because of the economic expansion which brings money in every year. And... of course the conquest cannot be discounted.

ConvGibraltar.jpg

Every continental province which I control is now Christian!

I was even thinking that Portugal’s war with Algeria might make the religious map of North Africa even more interesting, when…

Castille, as alliance leader, ended with a white peace. Must’ve really torked the Portuguese off! Oh well.

CapeColony.jpg

Cape Colony will provide another way-station into the Indian Ocean and Pacific -- an extension of the line earlier brought to St. Helena Island. Someday I might be able to transport troops to the East Indies to protect my colonies there!

At the beginning of 1562, I decided against holding my money, rather deciding to invest in my defense and economy. We began building a larger fort in Barcelona, to protect our shipyard, and build Constables in Meissen, Bremen and Rousillon, which hopefully will improve our income enough to provide breathing room in future years.

Weirdly, when I checked the ledger at the end of 1561, I found that only one war raged in the whole world!

BrazilDefense.jpg

It’s peacetime, we’re chilling out, and it’s time for us to attend to the defense of our gold-producing province in southern Brazil. If Portugal decides to attack, we’ll want someone there to defend our interests.

And, on that note, war with Portugal becomes all the more likely...

Yaay!

What mixture of those Portuguese places in Brazil are cities and colonies?

So who was waging the only war n the world when you checked? How come it's not Milan? Milan's got quite a chunk of North Africa. You've a lump or two of Protestantism to remove beforre you start converting North Africa.

Those cores in Italy and Aragon must be a relief, especially Barcelona as you can now benefit from what must be an economic powerhouse and shipbuilding centre.

May I suggest a thorough investigation of Milanese map-makers in the light of their recent mistakes when drawing your borders?

Just in case they'd turn up to have made more mistakes, of course :p

Renns, do me a favor. Hold off on that war out of Andalucia as I will be heading there in about three days and I wouldn't want to see it ruined (even if it is in a ficticious past :p ). Ah well, Iberia on fire! It wouldn't be a good game of EUIII if that weren't the case.

I see that you are planting seeds of the future expansion in Africa, South America and Iberia. War against Portugal seems to be inevitable, but hopefully peace would last for a while longer. Although knowing Milan's skills to get friends war will start rather soon.
