As one of our fine readers had predicted, the forced conversion of Great Britain did not last…
No matter. Our first hope is that the British will leave well enough alone, and go do their worship in peace. If, however, they enter into holy war with us again for the good of the Pope, we shall have to put them in their place again!
Interestingly, we’re being somewhat helped along by some internecine Muslim warfare. The Ottomans have declared war on the Mamluks and taken Mus!
Gen. Achille Spinoza, a short ways away, is fending off a herd of Mamluks, and hoping he can just hold on a little longer… (watch the morale sliders!)
Back in Egypt, a tremendous (unbelievable!) victory is achieved by Gen. Sfondrati against Bey Khuskadam at Asyut – a force which was basically half-again as many as the Imperial numbers was almost destroyed wholesale! About 27,000 dead, versus 3,000 escaped!
Now, I don’t normally even deal with revolts. They’re too common, and they’re just relatively unimportant. But this one popped up in the middle of the combat zone! Gen. Moscati was on his way to try to aid Spinoza, but instead has to divert his attention against the 7,000 Musselman irregulars.
Largely because he had no hope of relief, Spinoza has to retreat, and leave the Mamluks in control of the ground around Adana.
But he comes back, three weeks later! While, to the south, Egypt is falling to Imperial troops, Spinoza successfully gets the upper hand against the enemy at Adana.
And, just in time for the anticipated Mamluk collapse, and our territorial acquisitions, one of our advisors dies, to be replaced by an evangelistic theologian!
Far to the south, Imperial armies are battling the deserts and highlands of Sudan. The enemy is closing in behind, as we advance, but that won’t last long. These lands have no forts, so we just conquer as we march.
They attempt to end the dismemberment of the Mamluk “Empire”, but we’ll have none of it. The war continues for yet more weeks, as we consolidate our gains, and eliminate resistance.
Truly, I’m going for all the marbles. By January 1636, I’ve secured almost all of their African and Levantine empire.
Haven’t gone into Arabia yet, but that may lay ahead, depending on whether I judge it necessary or not...
And, finally, we achieve peace….
Just not the peace you expected!
