Good progress on the British Isles. Things could very well go quickly once the sieges in Scotland are over and you have several thousand extra men to push further south.

I can't believe I read that whole thing in one sitting, and it's not even done yet!

This is by far the best AAR I've ever read, from any forum, for any game. Just the right balance of detail and brevity. Long Live Milan!

Seems like you at long last have the British on the run and now that your forces have reached London I guess this time you won’t leave the British islands behind with only a white peace, I am guessing this will be the start the of the Milanese empire also in the British isles. I am looking forward to see how much of Britain you are going to grab in a peace deal and also what that will do to your standing in the rest of the world. I think it has been a long time since anyone declared war so I am guessing it is soon time for a new war to begin… ;)

One month in, Gen. Pico’s battle with Gen. Saunders at Northumberland was becoming a test of wills, and a battle of attrition. Saunders still had more me, but they were flagging, and were dying at a rate far worse then Pico’s because of the bad tactical situation they found themselves in.

SopransitoYork.jpg

More of the remaining strength of the Royal Army was concentrated in the midlands, much of it near Yorkshire, where Gen. Sopransi was moving his army.

His engagement, in the middle of January, caught Gen. Gilbert wholly unprepared. It was likely there was nothing poor Gilbert could have done. His army was so reduced and demoralized that there was no way it could stand against a superior force.

FromRearFlank.jpg

The Imperial forces were hunting the British down wherever they could be found, and were finally in sufficient strength that these battles were already stacked against the English.

The surrender of whole regiments, or the remnants of multiple regiments, were being taken in several battles in the last of 1619, and the beginning of 1620. Battles at Northumberland and Yorkshire had proved bloody for the British. The sieges in Scotland were near to success, and the sieges in the south were gaining ground.

Advantage.jpg

Superior numbers at Wessex gave Gen. Birago an advantage, no matter how clever Talbot’s defense. More Scottish provinces began to fall. Even a “loss” at Lancashire (strategic withdrawal) was at the cost of 3 times more Royal than Imperial troops!

Birago.jpg

By the end of February, Ayrshire had fallen, Talbot had been forced to complete surrender and begged for mercy at Wessex, and the tattered vestiges of the once-proud British Army were gathering for a final stand at Lancashire, suffering the further indignity of being blockaded in port by the Milanese Imperial Fleet, which had been anchored nearby for weeks!

Ayrshire.jpg

What fleeting successes had been had by Britain in Canada were stripped away and turned about.

FortheQueen.jpg

Milan, in mid-March, landed troops at Munster. They briefly assaulted the city, and retreated to Munster after a dismal failure at crashing the walls. There, at Munster, Gen. Davis attempted to give them a yet harder time. However, reinforcements were on the way to Eire.

SEire.jpg

Gen. della Scalla, reinforced with cavalry freed from the victory at Northumberland, defeated Saunders by the 1st week of April (a four month campaign!). But more thousands of coalesced and reorganized British troops were moving in from the south, and would arrive shortly. Della Scalla believed it would be necessary for his soldiers to rest, and so he ordered a strategic retreat toward Northumberland. The enemy would catch him, but at least his movement would be in process, and he could disengage more easily.

As they retreated into a small pocket, the thought-defeated British gained extra power from their concentration. Pico still harried Talbot’s army in Lancashire, and the pocket of the enemy was moving north, into Cumbria. However, even in this relatively secure bulge, the Milanese killed, wounded or captured 5,000 of the enemy in just a few short weeks!

Lancashire.jpg

When Pico, the victor of Northumberland, completed his wheel to the south, meaning to flank the British where they had left their least able troops, reached Lancashire just as Saunders’ down-on-their-luck retreat completed there. The battle lasted only a day, resulting in a rout.

Meanwhile, the British who had forced Della Scalla out spread into the northern lands, trying to undo the progress Milan had made in Scotland.

BritishIsles.jpg

In other news, before we go on, please note the significant Royal Marriage compact made a few screens up with Burgundy. Relations with once-hostile Burgandy have actually improved quite a bit! Some of that is due to diplomatic actions such as the marriage, and the rest is due to a calculated strategy to bring former enemies such as Burgundy and Poland closer through diplomatic overtures.

WowRebels.jpg

And look at this rebellion underway in France! A stack of 15,000 rebels in Metz!!! The French look to be entirely overwhelmed, and I wonder if they will lose Metz (they did), and perhaps other portions of that region (they did not – France remains a powerful country, and they eventually wore the rebels down). Still, it’s impressive (somewhat fearsome!) to see a revolt of that size!

The campaign is coming to an end. Now it is time to decide what to do with the peace, I am guessing you are planning to grab enough provinces to create a permanent power-base in the islands- Also the rebel force in France sure was impressive, I think you should be glad those are not normally seen in your empire…

Do I sense the pending creation of the "Scottish Duchy of Milan"!? The British appear to have been sorely beaten. I wonder what their manpower is at this stage of the war (I don't suppose you have that given that this was likely played some time ago). Anyway, will there finally be some time for economic rebuilding or is another war looming on the horizon....staying tuned.

Heya, Sforza Fans! (sorry -- It had to be said!)

I need some advice on a possible upgrade from EU III v.1.3 to the latest version of Napoleon's Ambition.

I suddenly have NA for the first time (I know, I'm slow...), and I'm wondering whether it installs as a separate game, or if it installs over EU III. If over, then how's the savegame conversion between 1.3 and NA? Do okay?

Good experiences? Bad experiences? I'd just like some guidance before I take the plunge.

Thanks!

I'd say you copy your eu3 into another place, and make only the other one NA, and then try the savegame in NA, and hope it works.

I think it worked for me.

How large is the British colonial empire anyway?
Very small, by this point. And that's not because I've taken much. It's because it never really got going. They have Bermuda and St. Lucia, and Canada (what's left of it). I've been nibbling at Canada, so about half of what they had is mine now. They have some territory that's hidden to me, but it can't be very much.

PrawnStar said:
Decent progress there.

I'm guessing but the easiest way to undermine Great Britain would be to force the release of the various minors on the British Isles - even if they are a bit weird (I grew up in Northumberland and an independent 'Geordie Nation' sounds bizarre).
Hmm... An interesting idea. No comment!

WhisperingDeath said:
Very nice work in the UK! Is your Land Tech advantage greater than theirs? You are swarming the island and keeping them off balance and this should work well for you given the limited amount of maneuvering space. Any plans for the peace (or should I say "piece") requirements? ;)
My land tech is better than virtually everybody now. In fact, I think I'm at least 1 ahead of everybody. One regular opponent is at 7, while I'm at 14 or better.

Well, going back to that first comment above, by Carinthium, there's hardly anyplace else to fight them! I did fight my first war with them exclusively offshore (Canada, islands, etc.). My second war only touched Ireland. But these days...

Seeing virtually none. I didn't look, but I'm pretty sure their manpower is shot. An occasional new unit, though (probably mercs, actually).

Is 1.3 harder than the other patches? I haven't noticed, but then again, I haven't really been watching...

Great progress on the British Isles. The British navy seems also notable absent...
I did see one British ship wandering out there in one of the shots, but I haven't been troubled by their warships in a long time.

Well, I did my switchover, and to the best of what I can tell -- for about 1 week only, so far, but still -- it seems to be working. The old build is saved elsewhere, in case I have to go back. We'll see!

Thanks, everybody!

I do have an update ready to go, but not quite finished. Must find some time here or there. Usually, I'm close to publishing an update, but need just 30 minutes to finish it. If I don't get that 30 minutes one day, it may be two more before I get there again.
