That's a pretty cool idea, actually! :D

Too bad this all played out a month ago, realtime. I'm already up to 1605! And by then my attentions are elsewhere -- Castille all but forgotten! ((/foreshadowing)) ;)

Wonderful to hear about all the victories. Now you are only days from peace I think, make a demand to the Castilians and if they agree fine, but if they don’t it is their loss and their stability that is hurt…
I think you should make all your enemies your vassals to stop them from doing this ever again, also then you can peacefully annex them after a period so that is also nice :)

Reinforcements having arrived on the Venezuelan coast, near Cartagena, things seemed to be looking up for Milan in this northern corner of South America. Victories continued, and control was held over 3 Castilian provinces in the region.

SAmerica.jpg

And victories also continued in Brazil. However, the Spaniards still possessed an enormous amount of troops on the continent, which could change things yet again if they could be brought to concentrate their forces. Ironically, Milanese victories served to pack these Castilian regiments together on the frontiers, without us having the strength to attack out into these gathering pockets.

Continued efforts to dislodge the tightening siege around Badajoz were frustrated. But elsewhere on the Iberian peninsula, Imperial armies reigned supreme, winning battle after battle.

CastileRevolt.jpg

One of the last bastions of Castilian resistance fell in early November, 1583, leaving only extreme northeast Castille, and her American holdings to stand against us.

FinallyMadrid.jpg

Most of Portuguese Morocco had fallen, and many encounters between Imperial and Portuguese troops resulted in nearly half of the enemy remaining dead or dying in the fields. This pattern held true, also, in America, where smaller battles at Ilheus and Chiancon resulted in Milanese victories (the latter being the first combat of the Cuban reinforcements).

ContinuedSuccess.jpg

At the very end of November, the long siege at Badajoz was finally lifted!

FinallyBadajoz.jpg

Galicia, in Castile, became a killing field, as Imperial regiments received the swords of Castilian regiments in surrender. Surrender was also had in Navarre, where a Castilian army which had wandered around behind Imperial lines was finally withered to nothing.

Domination.jpg

At Asturias, overwhelming force was brought to bear upon the fleeing remnants of Castile’s eastern and southern forces, which had been retreating for months. They finally surrendered. And in January, a final battle was won in Portugal, which meant that all of their provinces outside of Brazil were either conquered or under siege.

LastStage.jpg

Assaults continued to destroy the walls, and the last Portuguese city fell in mid-February.

Reinforcements which had been carried from Morocco – no longer needed there – even began to savage some of he easternmost Castilian provinces of northern Brazil, such as Guayana.

MoreFighting.jpg

But just as things seemed to be looking up in America, that concentration of Castilian forces in Venezuela finally overwhelmed the defenders around Maracaibo. They invested the city, which was thankfully protected by its new fortress walls.

Cuba.jpg

In Morocco, the very last of the once large Portuguese Moroccan detachment surrendered to the Holy Roman Empire of Milan. It was time to deal with this humiliated power, which deserved such a fate, by dint of its betrayal of liege status just a few years prior, and her later pact of vengeance with Castile, which brought these powers into conflict again.

With much of Portuguese Brazil still unconquered, a complete abasement was too much to ask for. But the peace demand which came from Milan was harsh…

PeacePort.jpg

All three remaining provinces of Portuguese Morocco would now fall under the suzerainty of the Holy Roman Empire.

Castille… still remained to be reckoned with!

A little more "back & forth" in this war than was to be expected. Oh well, blame it on the autopilot! :p
Well, I've always operated way below my forcelimit, so I often have to absorb the early attacks and come back gradually because my units are spread out all over, and it takes time to concentrate them.

Tricky Lady said:
Going a bit off topic, I think I could indeed do an AAR with some German or Italian minor. This could be interesting from this point of view: will I survive or not? (I mean: most AARs end in total victory, usually ). I could be a kind of a counterweight to those victorious AARs
I think you'll probably catch on quickly, and even if you have trouble, you're right -- it'll still be an interesting AAR! Actually, my other big AAR -- a Victoria AAR called Fire Warms the Northern Lands became quite popular because I almost lost! It was mildly popular up until that point, but then when the French armies were surging into Prussian territory and I had little to keep them back, that's what really caught people's attention! Those AARs can be quite interesting, and popular, because I think people learn more from that kind of AAR.

also, don't forget that the Portuguese bailed on you the first war after they accepted vassalization ! !

it was a shame that Bavaria was not as wise in Fire Warms…
Yeah, I'm quite wary of Portugal, which is why I didn't seek vassalization this time.

And, regarding Bavaria, boy they sure stayed around forever in Fire Warms! What, was it 1898 before I finally conquered Munich?! LOL The MIGHTY Prussian Empire!

I don't actually think their navy is that strong. I've beat it more or less into submission over these series of wars. After all, my navy isn't that impressive, so it's important that no one else's navy be very impressive either! :D

The complete subjugation and utilization of Wichita and the Greater Metro Area!!! Oops, sorry -- wrong game! Well, I was pretty satisfied with what I got from Portugal. I don't care so much about mainland Portugal as I do about her possessions in America and northern Africa. Though if they do keep bothering me, I will be forced to annex them! As for Castille, I'd like to expand my defensible perimeters in Venezuela, though I also have cores on some of their mainland territory, which may be nice to pick up.

Evangelion said:

You know... In a later war, you will see all provinces of Castille conquered, and after they remained that way for a while, they lost their whole navy -- every ship! Taht wasn't my war, though...

I may well have been, but I'm also limited by what the AI will accept in terms of war settlements. Not wanting the war to drag on for months while I try different peace offers... I think I may have picked up a colony in Brazil, though I don't remember for sure. I gathered 2 colonial provinces in an earlier war, and most of their remaining provinces are already full-fledged provinces (not colonies).

All right... Sorry for the lack of recent feedback, and for the rate of recent updates. I'm seriously busy with some other projects, which have slowed my AAR time and game-playing time both. I'll try to catch up at some point soon, in my breaks!

Thanks, again, to everybody who's reading! Even if you don't pop in to say hi, but especially to those who take the time to do so! I appreciate your comments, and your readership!

An update, maybe tomorrow?? Today, if I happen to find time, but I doubt it.

Flashing back…

Three months before the end of our war with Portugal, Castille got herself in “hotter watter” by acquiring an Indian brushfire war.

PileOn.jpg

And French regiments were present in two northern provinces, on the sea, too…

So she was hardly in any condition to refuse when, immediately after peace with Portugal, we demanded a truce with her, too.

We picked up one province, next to our others, in Venezuela. This simply strengthens what is already a very nice foothold on the northern end of the continent.

Carib1584.jpg

We also gained, more importantly, Madrid and Navarra from mainland Castille! And, perhaps, some breathing room before we found ourselves at war with them again.

Iberia1584.jpg

Interestingly, as I recall (remember, I lost all my notes! – going entirely from memory and screenshots I haven’t seen in a month…), it’s a long, long time before we are at war with Castille again, for reasons that will become obvious (later!).

Badboy1584.jpg

And… Sorry, but it appears that I completely missed my shot to get the western Med and my Badboy rating all in the same shot! As you can see, though, from the length of the explication in red, the world is pretty furious with us at this point! I would guess our Badboy was about 10 over our threshold – lower than you might think, after all Massimiliano’s warfare and conquests (because we have 3 Diplomatic advisors, working full-time!), but still dangerously high.

Not to mention War Exhaustion… Look at those red and black flags!

Denmark.jpg

More spitting across the Baltic, up where your spit freezes, and can become a lethal weapon!

I wonder if Cypriot spit still freezes at those climes? If they had a navy (they didn’t), we might have seen them help their ally.

CastFrance.jpg

Castille gets off light, again! And with French troops actually in her territory, even!

Now…

Check this out!!!

RMFrance.jpg

A Royal Marriage, and positive relations with France?! I’m dumbfounded! Who’s their King, Sarkozy?

Gifts2.jpg

Well, two can play this game, to keep ourselves on an even keel for a while. Emperor Massimiliano is flattered, of course, and has enough other enemies that he can afford to lose one. An actual effort to bring some countries more in line with Imperial thinking was made…

In other news, take note of that entry in the History Log! Impressive stuff going on across the seas!

JapanKorea.jpg

Gen. Caracciolo, of course, would be mourned. But an empire the size of ours can’t let a good name go to waste, so we manage to acquire the services of his son, a naval admiral!

Advisor.jpg

What a country!
