Yes, the bug is there for all units...
this sucks because upgrading is my favorite historical aspect of SF...go figure. so much for beta testing.

Very nice find, howerver gamewise I would never use cause its a bit to gamey. I mean with this logic you can convert a WW2 carrier to a modern day supercarrier!!!!
Hi, I just wonder, has anyone checked wether the AI uses this as well?

Yhea, i agree with you. This bug breaks the hole upgrade system. Dosen't that disturb the rest of you guys?
Sry if this has been posted already, didnt read all the pages, but i believe ive figured out a way to automatically upgrade the equipment of a ship. It wont upgrade its class but it will upgrade the parts similar to how the AA and radar etc is upgraded. Not the most historical but for those that want to go into your HOI III folder, technologies and open Naval technologies.
From there it will show you all Naval techs you can research. On every technology that creates new equipments - such as armament, armour etc. At the bottom of the tech itll say can_upgrade = no. Change it to a yes. Im about to try it out but theoretically it should allow them to be upgraded automatically, like the AA is. This however will mean your upgrade IC is gonna be...a lot.
This was knows since the original Hoi 3 came out
But even with this you could see for example a class change from Revenge/Queen Elizabeth to King George V even if you only upgraded your AA Radar etc.
so is it still useful to mod the files to be able to upgrade armor, engine, etc?

Yes, but that allowed you to upgrade ship while you could still use it freely, right? This method is more "clean" since you have to dock it for quite some time![]()
The SHBB will not upgrade, because is a single design, I just copied and pasted all the naval units, didn´t realize about the SHBB
Units upgrades or updates, infantry to mountain, or infantry1 to infantry2, are not supposed to give practicals
Is this really historical? Did navies really spend the time to upgrade ships like battleships/carriers?
If I recall correctly Britain still had dreadnoughts fighting in WW2.
