I see your problem. The Egyptian spear is double edged, so it can kill twice as much as your single edged spear. Upgrade to double edged blade weapons and you should be fine.

Well, if indeed everything you said happened exactly as you said (not saying you are lying, just saying that often people forget about something or don't see something right), then there are only 3 real possibilities:

1- Ledger was somehow wrong about his amount of troops (if you keep it open for a long time it sometimes doesn't update well, so the stats could have been old?) this one is kind of unlikely
2- Event units. I know for example that Scotland gets a lot of event units if England attacks him (sometimes they get like 17 troops, and they are a small country.. so if Mamluks have a similar event it wouldn't be weird if they got even more)
3- A bug. Somewhere, somehow the game just totaly messed up, which of course can happen.

Apparently it's anyone he fights, and only when Ottomans. Maybe something is corrupt in his files, like, maybe that starting tradition +5% discipline was somehow changed to -50%?

Not sure what the point of continuing is without screenshots or a save file. I know I was probably a total jerk and all, but really, what else are we supposed to do here?

I just picture some dude in Greece or wherever, sitting at home distributing pirated copies of games, but only after specifically nerfing the everliving hell out of the Turks first by adding scripted events that spawn enemy troops when the Ottomans try to attack them. Our poor piratey victim here first notices when he tried to make war as Ottomans and it doesn't go so well. So he goes back to his torrent site and patches the game, only to discover that our Turk-hating pirate supplier has now simply altered the Ottomans to have 5% total discipline rather than 5% bonus and now any time he goes to war he just dies horribly as his paper soldiers get steamrolled by his enemies.

Meanwhile, Loyka here, unable to link his game because it's stolen and unable to provide screenshots because doing so would dishonor his family, is forced to settle for playing Anatolian minors, brooding quietly for when the day will come when he can avenge himself on the filthy westerners and their jobs and valid games who mock him on these forums.

Yeah.

Someone on a french forum I read seems to have had a similar problem yesterday, here's a translation of his post :

"Hello everyone,

Since the update I have started an Ironman game with Sweden and during a war I noticed some very strange things.
First, during a battle with same number of troops and equivalent generals I suffered huge losses during every round of the battle, and the casulties were only balancing out when I was rolling nines to their zeroes.
Then, a naval battle in open sea between my entire fleet (3 light ships, 7 galeys and 8 transports) against a light ship and a transport, where my entire fleet got destroyed.

I can understand that some factors can make a battle very hard (and the land battle may be due to the fact that it's my first Ironman game and therefor my first encounter with the lucky nations bonuses) but for the naval battle I'm wondering if it's not a bug, unless I'm missing something, in which case any help to explain it is welcome.

31191f57-c905-42a6-9012-b5dafc17d0de.jpg
"

After that several people replied trying to explain it going through all the logical explanations but we failed to come to a logical conclusion, the poster saying that his navy was always at full maintenance and that it was very unlikely that his navy took a ton of attrition without him noticing.

If anyone can understand french here's the link to the thread : http://forum.canardpc.com/threads/97188-Europa-Universalis-4-pach-1.12-de-nouvelles-features-qui-défient-le-sens-commun?p=9055450&viewfull=1#post9055450

Well, as we discussed on the forum, it's certainly because he was blockading in the north see and his navy took attrition there.

Anyway, as there is no savegame and no screenshot, we can't trace the origin of the bug and frankly I'm more inclined towards a user misunderstanding than a bug in that cases. You'll notice it's always the players losing in spite of incredible odds, not winning in spite of those, which makes me think that the frustration of losing makes people look for bugs where there is likely nothing.

Refusal to provide screenshots and yelling when asked means troll to me.
Sounds to me like he wanted help, people gave him help and he probably has like mil 6 tech while mammies have mil 8 or something and he refuses to say so because that would be so shameful to admit he screwed up...? big whoop

Basically I had the same problem yesterday. So, I allied with the Persians, and now I'm winning almost every war.

For some reason, all countries I declare war with, first attack the Persians. So the attacking armies are decimated before I encounter them.

My friend got his army squished fighting (defending) 7k vs 10k with maintenance and full regiments while playing as Hansa.. He is definitely not bad player so im not sure how can you possibly get squished in that situation. It was in first 10 years of game start so no tech advantage or ideas helped enemy.

Did the enemy have a general with a very high shock value? How about a +10% morale adviser? These make a huge difference in the early game. Lucky roles can always make a big difference too. All things being equal, 7k vs 10k is not a foregone conclusion.

Ten years is also sufficient time for a monarch with a high mil stat to reach mil-tech 4. With that alone, your friend's 10k army is a significant underdog.

Well I just checked, broke the union and declared war on Norway with Danmark (Sweden owning all the Danish ports on the screenshot), with diplo tech 3 I was able to blockade the entirety of Norway without suffuring any attrition at all. So just how likely is it that he took enough attrition without loosing any ships and noticing to get destroyed like that by this pityfull Muscovy navy ? Even with his entire navy at 5% I don't think he could have lost that fight.

I am a skeptical person and I would at first also be more enclined to think that it's a mistake on the player's part, but I just can't settle for such an explanation.

There are still a million variables that could be at play here. Until similar battles with similar results can be reliably reproduced under the right conditions, we can't be certain that a bug is to blame.
