Hi all,
started writing a little mod and stumbled over several problems.

Maybe you guys can help, i found no info on that in the board so far.

(1) is there a way to test a change to a mod without restarting the whole game?

(2) is there a way to trigger an event only if a person has a positive opinion of me?

(3) i havent found out how to make it so the game loads up my localisation .csv file.

(4) where are mercenaries defined?

Thanks all for the answers.

Is there any thread that points to all modding info you all have so far collected? Would be awesome

(3) Saving .csv files with openoffice corrupts them by adding quotes to all strings

(4) mercs are defined in landed_titles.txt and their composition in static_modifiers.txt

New Question: is there a way to modify the cost of mercenary unit types? i.e. make archers cheaper? thanks

Nope.

Sure. But it's easier to answer this question more specifically if you paste your whole event code here (and use the code tags around it so it's easier to read).

It works fine to open and save the files in Open Office as long as you do it with the right settings.

I would also have 2 questions.

1. Is it possible to define a character's regent in one of the files that we can mod?
2. Is it possible to define betrothals in the files that we can mod?

Thank you in advance and best regards!

I'd really like to know what settings have been successful - my attempts don't seem to work, and restarting the game a dozen times is starting to chafe...

I don't know, but have you tried notepad++. It's great for modding, with tools like find in files that I don't think open office even has.

he demands about the use in spreasheet like openoffice Calc.
which is really more practical for some files where copying column could be needed.

Indeed. I don't see how I could work on text1.csv with Notepad++. Since OO Calc won't do the trick out of the box and I have no clue which of the myriad of settings might do it, is there another alternative to Excel that has worked for anyone?

Notepad++ works pretty well for the localization files. The easiest is to copy-paste another entry and then just replace the contents and label with whatever you want to use. Or you could just write it: label;english;french;german;;spanish;;;;;;;;;x

I second Notepad++. You can also select language, and selecting C++ from the list lets you minimize certain parts of the txt files. And you can save in any of the formats that Paradox uses like *.gfx, *.map, *.csv.

That is for sure really player friendly for people playing in another language.

Putting as default English text everywhere is better IMO as it make the mod playable for everyone withou having to change the whole-language settings. Best way to achieve is spreadsheet tool.

Notepad++ is more than perfect for every other scripting task.

after a few tests I figured it out.

with openoffice Calc :
at opening unactivate the option related to text quotes. (it is activated by default).
Now, it should work properly. (at least for localisation files as they don't use any quotes in)
