Anyone noticed if the odds of finding one of the legendary cities has been changed? Playing a Poland game right now, Spain found the Fountain of Youth AND Quivira, and France found El Dorado. And I mean the 800 ducat versions of all three. I thought was relatively rare before, seems to happen a lot more now. A previous game I only played until around 1550, someone found one too.

I had a look at the events and there are no changes since version 1.30 which added that the bad ending for the fountain of youth can't happen for countries with crusader missions and another change which looks like a bugfix. There were a few more bugfixes in 1.28, but it doesn't look like the likelihood changed. And the weights in the event triggers in the on_actions file are unchanged since 1.15.
The only things which could have changed are how many unexplored empty provinces for each country who starts searching for the seven cities and how many such countries exist.

I think your experience is more due to random chance.

I used to get one or two every ten games or so. My sole 1.33 game which got to colonialism has already had Portugal discover 1 by 1517, but its also a semi historical game with Austria pushing its PUs, Spain getting some of flanders and getting both carribean and mexican CN whilst portugal went brazil

I had a Mann game where I just found another one, and the AI found one in the same game. Perhaps these were from changes in 1.30 that I didn't notice, but it feels way off now.

I wonder if this something Paradox can see remotely as it would be difficult to get empirical results on this easily.

Perhaps these were from changes in 1.30 that I didn't notice
The 1.30 changes should not have an impact on the odds of finding one of the seven cities unless one of the countries with crusader missions actually does the search which is very unlikely. The bugfix which I mentioned is for the event Waving the White Flag and has no impact on the probabilities.

How do crusader missions affect the chance?
As I said, they disable the bad ending for the fountain of youth event. One less event increases the chances for the other slightly, but this only matters in situations in which the country would be eligible for the bad ending event.

I usually only want the "Search for XYZ" prestige modifier until the end of the campaign which seems a lot more beneficial than a one-time cash injection and having 6 or 12 more dev in a Colonial Nation

I would think it ended when you stop exploring or your explorer dies.

Well to be fair, the benefits go way beyond 800 ducats and a bit of prestige. Most of the cities have +50% local goods produced and -20% dev cost, which can be huge on the right trade goods. Fountain of Youth also has -50% local construction cost, which could be fun even if it's not really gamebreaking (but certainly more valuable than 800 ducats!)

They are good province modifiers, yes. However, they are tied to bad provinces and aren't under your direct control.
