USB

Reading the messages above, I would like to know did the USB connection between two computers work. and If so, what does one do after connecting the 2 computers. I am still trying to find a computer store that has the USB connections for two computers. (A to A)

no luck so far. I will go back to it in the next few days. Right now, I have no idea why it isn't working. I suppose I whould try some other MP game and see if it will run on USB and then if it does, return to EU2.

Yes, it's all Windows networking. Was there something you read or heard that indicates otherwise?

I have found that XP demands that the 98 machine install some XP software for the network to run properly. At least that was the problem we had with the network at home.

There are 3 Private Address Ranges.

10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (1 Class A)
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (16 Class Bs)
192.168.0.0. - 192.168.255.255 (256 Class Cs)

Packets bearing these addresses must not occur in the global Internet, and must not be passed by backbone routers.

So you were both correct, you just selected to pick addresses from a different Private Address Range.

Best regards,
Juris.

Couple off v.important things to remember with Windows XP.

1. Careful of the network wizard - if all your machines run XP then its great. In a mixed network you might be better off configuring it manually. Eg if you have a USB network adaptor (such as a wirless one) the wizard won't complete on a win 98 machine as the machine has to be rebooted and the network drivers are loaded after the wizard searches for them on the reboot and can't find them:mad:

2. With a mixed Win 98/ME and XP network the names of the computers are important. Win 98/ME allows spaces in the computer names - XP doesn't (and won't connect!)

3. To let the network work in a mixed OS system you have to be logged on to win 98 machine and the user name must also be on the XP machine. So if your user profile is A.N.Other and you have a spouse B.N.Other you must have both profiles on the XP and Win 98 machines and you must be logged on as one of the profiles on the Win 98 machine.

Hey, you guys might no the answer to this question. I just got cable modem and when I launch EU2 multiplayer and try to login to VNET is says I'm not connected to the internet.Do I have to change my settings to play Eu2 multiplayer? Everything else like downloading and web surfing work and I don't have a firewall.

Just a note on Derek's post. It's advisable in general to not use spaces in names, including filenames, if that name may ever be intended to be used on a machine running another OS.

success!

I have a regular cable modem from road runner. I have managed to network both of my computers. Here's how: I installed an ethernet card in both computers. I attached a hub to both computers. Without the hub the network will not work. I ran a cat6 LAN cord therough the ceiling to the other computer and attachedit to it's hub. I ran the networking wizard (I have XP on both computers) and it works fine:)

Hey, I just bought two more computers and I networked all 3 to share my cable modem but I have a problem. How do you network a printer? I installed it on one computer and told it to share it and then I went on my other computer and tried to print something out. I heard the printer getting ready to print but it didnt and after a while it went back to "ready" status. Keeps doing this. What's up?
