Veeery nice, I like my success. I'll build a galley and 300 soldiers.

Oh and by the way, can I raid the trade lanes of someone NOT of the Venetian families?

Sure, there's just a small chance you'll steal from the other families, if they are setting up trade routes across the sea.

Are overland raids permitted in addition?

That is in fact a good idea, I'll try to add it to the rules.

Argh! The Cornaros are so had. Valerio failing at setting up a trade route, failing at war, and getting himself wounded on top of everything else.

Ok, young Alamanno Cornaro's still supporting the church, and he's trying to do what his father couldn't -- setting up a trade route. And he'll hire 100 additional soldiers in any case, whether the trade route fails or not.

And he's desperately looking around for some childless rich old tart to marry for her money. Some very rich, very old tart. :D

Okay, then I'll steal from a sea trade route, but if it turns out to be from a fellow Venetian family, I will return as much money as I can.

I did misunderstood you. I thought that single counties attacking were possible. (As in, whole republic declares war, but only armies of my family fight.) But that's ok.

The problem here is mainly the amount of micromanagement. Not only would the families need claims on them, I would also have to start every war, by either editing the save game file, or loading up as each nation.

Okay, then I'll steal from a sea trade route, but if it turns out to be from a fellow Venetian family, I will return as much money as I can.

Just remember that raiding trade routes is considered piracy.

I'll attempt to hire another two hundred, and commit the assembled army of the Camino family to a raid against Kärnten (or whatever that eastern german county be)

I have added some rules now for attacking neighbours.

Then an attack against a weaker neighbour, I would suppose?

Yup, that's probadly the best idea in the start.

Why is everyone recruiting?
What is the purpose of having a army of own?

Just wait till they come knocking, taking your treasure and councillors from you. :p

The reign of Pandolfo Contarini, 1110-1120.

Pandolfo would be the second member of the Contarini family to lead the republic onwards, and would try to further the Contarini goals in the region, mainly creating a Venetian powerbase in Northern Italy.

He had to wait before getting the opportunity to start invading the neighbouring counties, duchies and republics, as the reputation of the republic had taken a turn for the worse, following the various conquests of Alarico Contarini.

However, in May, 1110, the young count of Padua, Anastasio Togliatti decided to rebel against Pandolfo. His rebelliousness was struck down fast however, as Pandolfo not only had command of a large army, but also the support of the other families. Anastasio's rebellion was short, but in a show of extreme generousity and forgiveness, Pandolfo allowed Anastasio to keep his lands, in return for his upmost loyalty from that day forward. The offer was humbly accepted.

The following year, in July 1111, Pandolfo saw the opportunity to seize control of Mantua from the misplaced Duchy of Brabant, who had been exiled from the Dutch area by rebellious counts. The invasion would be simple. Pandolfo would use his vastly superior force to quickly siege and take control of the key cities under control of the German duke, Mantua, Bologna, Firenze and Lucca.

The invasion was, as predicted, a success for Pandolfo, and Mantua was added to the growing republic, and was shortly after given to the church.

The next many years remained peaceful for Venice, and it was not until 1117, with the invasion of Genoa, that Pandolfo went to war.
WaragainstGenoa.png

The situation looked grim for Genoa and their leader, Filippo Giustiniano, who assembled his forces in his last attempt to keep Genoa independent.
BattleofGenoa.png

At the Battle of Genoa, the fate of the smaller Geonese republic was decided. Resulting in the city state being added to the Venetian republic.
The Giustiniano's now served as simple courtiers in the court of the Contarini's.
The city of Genoa itself was given to Pandolfo's son.

The rest of Pandolfo's reign was throughoutly peaceful, where improvements were built all around the republic's lands.

The law, that being me, states that one who revolts against the Serene Republic is committing highest treason, for which penalty is hanging, the family is exiled and the lands taken over by the republic.

Eat that, criminal scum.

I would like to keep conquering, but I also suggest raiding rich heathen cities along the African coastline.
We don't need to conquer their provinces, just loot them from everything that can be carried away.

Furthermore, the Italian theatre shall still be the main theatre.

Victory through piety.

Wise advice, Enewald. I think I'll heed it.

I'll hire another 100 soldiers, and then raid the African coast.

The riches of Africa shall be mine.

Oh, by the way, I have a question, Grauuu. Can we work with other players to undertake an action?

:D I'll keep that in mind the next time someone rebels against your wise rule sir!

Yeah, of course. You have pretty much free hands to do what you want, as long as it seems fair, so several families working together to attack other families, share wealth or use their counsillors to vote for each other is fine.

Remember, this is mainly a concept, meant in the way that I am willing to make changes and accept ideas, just let them out.

The Cornaros will continue to "support the church", and they will "set up more local trade routes". If successful in this, they will "hire 100 additional soldiers".
