I was read about Serbia in World War 2. It sound like Serbia have metal resource and that one reason why Germany occupy it. But I can not find more information.

Territory of the Military Commander in Serbia - Wikipedia

This territory was the only area of partitioned Yugoslavia in which the German occupants established a military government. This was due to the key rail and riverine transport routes that passed through it, and its valuable resources, particularly non-ferrous metals.[3]

The remaining territory, which consisted of Serbia proper, the northern part of Kosovo (around Kosovska Mitrovica), and the Banat was occupied by the Germans and placed under the administration of a German military government.[11] This was due to the key rail and riverine transport routes that passed through it, and its valuable resources, particularly non-ferrous metals.[20]

The main reason the Axis had to occupy Yugoslavia was because they needed to move troops and supplies through it to conquer Greece and secure the Axis southern flank before attacking the Soviet Union. The roads on Bulgaria were too poor to supply all Axis troops going into Greece, so they needed to move those through the Serbian valleys which lay between some high mountain ranges.

I thought Germany attacked Yugoslavia because they hated bordergore.
But @goodcigar 's post is not about the reasons to invade Yugoslavia, but about the reasons why it was divided after the invasion.
