I conquered the entire Japan, took all their provinces but was left with a 0,8k separatists unit in Aleut, Alaska (Japan had just started to colonise).

I didn't bother wasting time to send any ships there with some troops because I assumed they can't do anything besides preventing me to core the province. Well, then the icon with "rebels are close to enforcing demands" popped up. I was at a loss for words, they literally didn't even manage to occupy it because they were less than 1k and couldn't reinforce.

HOWEVER, when they finally got to "enforcing the demands", the entire Japan separated from me. Not joking, the entire Japan literally became its own tag, including the provinces I took from them 2 and 3 wars before.

If separatists who’s tag does not current exist enforce their demands all their cores go to them. But they should need to occupy a province for five years.

As to your scenario, are you sure there wasn’t some random Pacific island or something that was occupied and you might have missed it?

Yes, it's obnoxious and there's simply no plausibiliy in this happening the way it is. Rebels *should* simpy take their one province island or whatever when they become independent, but definitely not provinces they don't even control.

No, as I could core them all after occupying besides that Alaskan one and they didn't revolt in the meantime. Eh, let's hope my GH WC doesn't fail because of this now.

Funnily enough they don't need to occupy one of your provinces to enforce demands. I once had separatists occupy an enemy which I still had more than 10 years truce with. They wandered into my territory and I beat them silly. Five years later the whole of Madagascar separates...
