Would it be possible to get a key that's only function in-game is to pause the time if the time is rolling?

Otherwise pressing the key would have no effect what-so-ever. A possible suggestion for the key to bind it to, Scroll Lock, what by my knowledge has no current functions bound to it at the moment.

Observe that this is not meant the replace the current spacebar function, that would remain unchanged for those who like it the way it is.

Literally can't see the problem here.... has anyone else found it annoying? It's been a time since I played but I don't remember it being a major thing....

If you do not care about this issue then please do not post in this thread and that goes out to all of you. I've been playing the HOI-series for over eight years so when I finally try to find a solution to something that bothers me, I'd like to see if there is a way of fixing it, not if other people aren't bothered at all by it :p

So if you do not care about the issue, then please do not post in this thread.

Yes - it is a really annoying bug - it is also in Rome and EU3.

The problem occurs when you pause the game - but in the same
tick (hour) an event/message occurs that is set to pause the game - which may be several seconds later when the game is lagging.

In this case your manual pause is taken as a resume which is the exact thing you really really don't want to do. It gets even more annoying when you then try to pause the game but another event pauses the game - I have gone at least most of the way through a game day just trying to pause the game.

I didn't know that it was in the other titles too, since I hardly have even played them, but yes that is exactly why I started this thread for sagji ;)

This had been frustrating to me as well, due to lag and lack of patience, but I think the one key for pause/restart is okay, really. My main problems occured when I would hit pause at the same time an event paused the game, especially at faster speeds. It became a mess of pause/unpause cycles until I disabled the popups from pausing, leaving it to me to decide.

With regards to that I'm guessing there won't be any official responds to it since it's going to vanish among the flood of posts here :(

I started it in the tech support forum due to it's being of a game technical origin and would need a game technical solution to be solved :(

Well, the solution would be quite simple then.

If any event is bounded with auto-pause, then the game should not go on while that pop-up window with that particular event is open.

Any hit on the Pause button would do only such thing, that the game will stay paused even after closing the pop-up window.

So, with this setup, you will be able to un-pause the game only after you close that pop-up window. And the problem is gone...

I don't know how it actually works in HOI3, but I think that this was how it (somehow) worked in HOI2. And it worked well.

To be fair, the "stay out if you don't agree" type response applies only if the solution does not impede other people's play experiences;

I.E. If the previous poster had assumed that you wanted to "remove" the current spacebar functionality and replace it, that might interfere with his game, which he would object to.




That said, it sounds like you are just asking for 2 as-of-yet unbound keys to act in this function, so unless there are fewer than 2 keys left on the keyboard to bind, it's all good.


And of course, there's GCZ's suggestion, which makes sense to me as well; the only gameplay alteration I can see that as "negatively" affecting are the people who like to "abuse" the Decision-system to, say, hold off on annexing Xibei Sen Ma to keep Japan in "at war" status or something.

I fully agree with the OP that that is annoying!

Sometimes half a day passes before the game is paused because of events popping up, especially when conducting large operations :)

And in that case you could keep using the current spacebar for pausing and continuing. Nothing in my suggestion would change that, it would only add another optional way of dealing with it.

Dude, it doesn't work that way. You're free to post suggestions, but anyone else is free to post that this is a trivial issue that isn't worth 30 seconds of a developer's time.

I wouldn't go that far, myself. I think if Paradox can implement this in ten minutes or so of work, then they should go for it.
