I am working through some FAQ's on leaders that I picked up on this forum.

One rule states "In battle, a stack of formations is commanded by their most senior leader."

I assume that this refers to the most senior rank. However, who commands if there is more than one leader of that rank in the stack? Is experience used to determine the most senior leader?

Any other comments or info most welcome.

If I recall correctly, the overall leader doesn't much matter if the same rank as only the units directly commanded by a leader (aka in his stack) gets any benefit from the traits and skill rank he has. Thus if a field marshal 5 and 4 attack a province and somehow the 4 leads, it wouldn't affect anything really as you would still have the field marshal bonus (for overstack) and their individual traits and skill rank will be applied to only units they directly command.

Pretty sure that's how things work anyways. As to whether or not skill rank matters for overall leader, I don't think it does as I have had cases when lower skilled leaders have commanded (or at least I remember it that way ;)).

Correct. From Fiendix's invaluable FAQ:
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=148199

5.3 It doesn't make any difference which of equal ranking leaders is in command:
- Command Capacity Penalty (the -75% one) is set by rank only, and
separately for each stack.
- Traits are passed by all leaders to unitS in their formation regardless of
who commands the battle.
- Skills are passed by all leaders whose formationS are smaller than their
capacity, regardless of who commands the battle.
