In the simulation diary it mentioned that every citizen would work if possible, with the exception of university students or children. What about the oldies? Do they ever retire in the game, or are they flogged to death & work until they drop.

Better not let the politicians here get any ideas.;)

Ye there are seniors that don't work. Quill had ideas similar to what you're going for, since you can see in district views the age make-up of a district, so you find where the oldies are living and tax the hell out of them. That was his plan at least.

Yeah. I think in the latest stream, it was mentioned that people retire at 60 or something. Not sure though.

Do they. The only information I have seen is that in the Simulation Diary of 7 Jan 15. Hopefully, that is true, then we can add old peoples homes, where all the oldies can mingle together.

It would be fun if retirement age was at the discretion of the mayor, the benefits of keeping people working longer would have to be balanced against the cost of youth unemployment (assuming there is a welfare payments system that costs money). Old people working might have the risk of being past their best, specially in heavy industry, or they might cost more in sick pay. Mayor could lay on more higher education to try and stop the young claiming unemployment, and of course this costs too.

They actually mentioned this in Quill's session over at CO. It was pretty humorous how they summed it all up, but elderly do stop working and eventually just become citizens (with an imaginary pension, of course).

Well it shouldn't be imaginary, it should cost money which is balanced against their spending power (success of commercial) and overall happiness. Though this is probably something we can mod in if it's not there, as soon as we have enough function in the API

As a "senior citizen" myself, I look at this discussion in a completely light than you kids do (to me, anybody younger than me is a "kid").
Old cims die, cemeteries fill up.
At least elder cims aren't treated like the elders were in some American Indian tribes. When 'elders' get too old, they're sent on a Long Walk all by themselves. Eventually the wolves gets them.

I am 62 and start collecting my pension in two months. This causes me to be interested in matters of pension costs and health and transport provision, etc which is why I'd be interested to see it modelled in a game.

they should let you sign a social security law like tropico 1, pays them 2/3 the average wage i believe. Otherwise they live in shacks

That law in tropico 1 also pays students if they are attending school
