i have to say that i'm a bit disappointed that sengoku didn't have starting date at 1550's, because it's the date when many famous battle in sengoku period starts, for example the battle of okehazama, and many great sengoku period leaders shines in 1550's like oda nobunaga
but i think it would be great if PI would add the 1550's starting date, of course, along with it's historical map and clan leaders, just a suggestion, i'm not forcing PI to do it
Some maniacs ;) already made a 1550 mod and it looks pretty good.

Sengoku is winning by far, as you don't have to buy it on Steam.

Steam is almost single-handedly saving the PC game industry. Granted it has help, but it is prettry inocuous and has been a huge win for PC gamers. I never understand why people don't like it. Sure it makes pirating games and cheating harder, but for most good people those shouldn't be issues.

People don't like it because it runs constantly except if you change the settings etc (resources your computer could be using elswhere). Also read their EULA thingy not as bad as EA's Origin but they also like to harvest your specs etc to sell the information to 3th parties for extra cash gain. So you pay them to play their games and then they are making more money of you by selling your specs etc. No i am no fan of steam. Give me something like gamersgate :p nice and not invasive

Its hard to compare two games since they have very little in common, but at the moment Sengoku is rather lackluster game, it doesn't have much variation in gameplay and some features hardly work. While S2 is a good fun game without any weak point (Steam bashing apart), so right now comparison in rather unfair, let Sengoku to grow with a couple of patches and then we'll see.

If you play the Shogun 2 campaign well, you should very rarely need to actually fight battles. The auto-resolution engine seems to handle the very lopsided battles better than I can. You should optimize your army use so that you only fight in lopsided battles. This damages the advantage that Shogun may have gained over Sengoku for having an intricate combat simulation.

I think STW is fun, but not as good as the total realism verison of RomeTW (is there one for STW yet? Guess not from what damnt512 just posted). I like the depth in Sengoku, and as Mnoracle said, in 2 or three patches this game will be fantastic (as HOI3 For the Motherland is now a fantastic game compared to initial release, in my opinion).

Having said that, I'll play both STW and Sengoku and enjoy both :). Shame I can't do the strategy in Sengoku then switch to STW for the battles :).

Steam is almost single-handedly saving the PC game industry.

The PC Game Industry was never dying as so often falsely proclaimed. That's been a common misconception for decades, being said over & over with nothing every coming of it. When PC game sales started shifting to digital download years ago, the cry of the dying PC redoubled it's efforts and, again, was a false alarm. It's actually increased over the years.

Digital purchases of PC games wasn't invented with Steam. They just took the idea, and added some buggy 3rd party ad-ware to it. Like shoving DRM ridden commercials into your gaming. Soon you'll be told to "switch to Geico" while being forced to watch commercials when starting a game.

It sounds to me like you were not actively involved in the industry. Pirating was taking a huge chunk out of revenues and big developers were fleeing to consoles like crazy. There was a lot of discussion about it. I am not talking about media reports, I am talking about internal discussions at developers. No steam didn't invent Direct downloads, but they popularized it and have frankly provided the best platform for it.

As for the topic, Shogun 2 and Sengoku are both great games.
