I would like the option to be able to send vehicles back to the depot when they are on their route. I really wanted this feature as it is very annoying when two buses start following each other on the same line, and the second isn't picking anyone up. It would be very useful to send the vehicle back to the depot when this occurs. Also, it would also be useful to be able to send vehicles back to the depot directly when the vehicle is empty and the rest of the stops on the route have no passengers to pick up. This would also be helpful when a vehicle is nearly going to or has broken down. One of my buses broke down after passing stop one on the line and had to go all the way around the route before it could get fixed.

EDIT:
I think there could also be a 'Terminate at next Stop' option for the vehicles, and this would work with the Send Back to Depot option, to clear any remaining passengers off the vehicle if the condition is low. This would however, make the passengers that were on board angry.

Once you have more than one depot it is technically already possible to do much of what you want. You can reassign/move the desired vehicle to the second depot while it is out running on a line and then reassign/move it back to the first depot. This will cause the vehicle to de-spawn from the map as part of the move (it will also now show at the bottom of the list in the respective sent-to depot). What you're asking for, and something I agree would be useful and more convenient, is essentially a modification of this - allowing a vehicle to be sent to the same depot that it is already assigned to.
